WEEKLY SUMMARY: HAND IN WEEK
This week is hand in week, and it’s been pretty stressful for me this week. Unfortunately I lost some of my work on the holograms i animated over the easter break, so i had to re-animate each scene, on top of animating the hologram updates too. I managed to get a hologram update done, which the team liked which was good. I had found a way to do it using After Effects, which worked really well. Even though I animated it on a transparent background, it still showed a little bit of the black backing when i put it on the table for the meeting man scene, and it also wouldn’t go underneath the actual meeting man’s hand. So i had to mask the hand above the the hologram scene so it looks like he touches it, to start the update.Â
I also had to turn the astronaut’s background into a transparent one, but it wouldn't work the same way the holograms would. So i had to keylight it and then add it onto the spaceship scenes, and mask his movements so it looks like  he was in the ship himself. That was easy enough to do, but it was a lot to have on my plate after having most of my work deleted and Jamie’s stuff to do as well as animating some other assets for the film too at such short notice. I felt like i had a lot of work piled on me at the wrong time, and i didn’t get much help with it, which meant i had some things incomplete for hand in. Error wasn’t fully rendered but i think what we had so far worked well, and you can get a sense of the story and it’s environment well. We’re going to try and get a fully rendered version for the degree show instead, so it’s all finalised then. It was a little annoying not being able to hand in a completed film, but we were set back a month with all the trouble we faced.Â
For Jamie’s project, I managed to get his intro and outro done and finalised. I also did his poster, which took a little while to do, it was a little difficult to do his poster because i was finding it hard to represent what the film was about and making it look good. But after looking at a few references it was a little bit easier to do this. I don't think it’s my best work, but it’s what i could come up with in a short time, plus he seemed happy with it anyways.Â
For my personal portfolio I managed to finish off my claymations and turn them into gifs using giphy. They’re now uploaded onto giphy for people to use. I also put them on my website along with some other projects i worked on and got done for the website. My website is complete now and live! It’s looking better than my website from second year, and i really enjoyed making it. I’ve put my showreel up, which shows my best work/recent work- but i don’t have music to my showreel because of the advice we got from guest speakers at the ani wip not to have music on there. But  i think for my website i need to have some music on there? But overall, I’m happy and proud of the work I’ve done for this unit, and I’m glad it’s finally come to an end.
