Headcanon: Season Nine Edition
Sam would not have tricked Dean into housing an angel ( likely canon, actually ).
But he would have found another way.
There is something wrong with Dean, and Sam knows it.
And would have listened, had Dean opened up; but he was in quite a bit of emotional pain, as well.
Although that perspective is generally hidden since the camera/audience relies upon Dean’s eyes.

"Well, we know Abbadon can time travel; think she threw us somewhere? Time gets wonky when you screw with it…"
”That doesn’t explain the rest of the people, though. Uh. Right. We’re —not exactly alone. There are about ten-fifteen others stuck here, same experience with a white flash, but some have been here weeks.” As he turns the corner, in the distance stands a figure, and his severe expression softens, coming to a gradual stop beside the men. “Need a lift?”
"Wait.."
"Did you just say 'wonky'?"
The phone clicks closed when Sam pulls up and he leans into the passenger's side window to give his brother a seriously judgemental stare before he's pulling the heavy door open, relishing the familiar groan of metal, and sliding in.
"Don't ever say that again."
Grinning at his brother just to let him know he doesn't mean any real offense by it, he settles back in the seat and closes his eyes. Man does it feel good to have something familiar to touch instead of staring around him in utter confusion.
"So. Who else is here? Ten to fifteen people, anyone we know?"

“Baby made it too huh? Nah, Incendium sounds like some bad movie flick title but other than that, its drawin’ a blank.”
Taking a moment to take in the street signs, he can’t seem to make the words click and instead glances to the building behind him.
”Looks like I’m right outside a mall?”
"Mall… mall… Alright, I think I know where you are." The sound of the engine starting, some rustling, the rumble of wheels as he pulls off and starts down the road. "So, you just got here? —What’s the last thing you remember? Because, all I did was open a door, flash of white, and suddenly I’m standing outside."
"You said you'd been here two days right? Why don't I remember anything since that light? Were've I been for two damn days?"
The more pressing matter is, where the hell can he get a bite to eat? He's not exactly hungry, but he hasn't eaten in two days at least and that's not even counting his decreased appetite since a little before the showdown with Abbadon.
"Any striking locale that might give us an idea where we are? Pretty much been through the whole country so its gotta look familiar, right?"

"—Dean? Dean, where are you right now?”
”God its good to hear your voice. I don’t know dude, just…there was a light and that’s all I know. Place looks deserted though.”
"Okay, yeah. Same. I’ve been here about two days. I don’t know much, but this town, it’s called Incendium —Does that ring any bells with you? I mean, the closest I’ve got is fire, inferno, maybe ‘hellfire’… Uh. What’s— what’s around you? Any street signs or something I’d recognize? If not, I’ll drive around town ‘til you spot me."
A pause, and then he adds: “The car’s here, somehow.”
