Whenever I work on smaller canvasses I like to group them together so I can work on more than one at a time. It helps me to be a little less precious with each piece and keep the flow going. Working this way also allows me to imagine them as part of a larger series, and create them to interact with each other in anticipation of them being on display together some day. Cover Up. Acrylic, ink, and salt on canvas. 10 x 20 in. $75. DM if interested. This is another painting I started at the beginning of summer and hid from myself because I got stuck. I was so frustrated with this painting that I decided I was going to completely paint over it in black and start from scratch. Then I thought it would look better if there was some red poking through the black. So I painted the whole thing red, and it turns out that was what it needed. If you’ve been by my place you’ve seen this painting in the middle of the floor, because how to finish it has been vexing me for most of the summer. I was frustrated because I wanted it to turn out differently, but this piece had other intentions. I had a great talk with another artist while standing in line for pasta last night about how it’s hard for artists to let go of our vision for the work and accept the reality of the work in front of us.
