From the very beginning, Cuphead had grown up hearing the same celestial lecture on repeat: demons were pure evil, beyond saving, and the smartest thing an angel could do was stay far, far away from them. Elder Kettle and the whole Cálix Amini family had drilled it into him so many times that he ended up believing it like it was divine law. And honestly, it didn’t help that when he was little, an older demon had tricked him and almost ripped his soul out, literally his heart. Everyone in Heaven knew who it had been: the Devil himself. If Cálix, his aunt, hadn’t intervened that day, Cuphead would’ve vanished in the blink of an eye. Ever since then, fear turned into prejudice, and prejudice into full-on distrust.

So when he saw Bendy on the earthly plane for the first time, his reaction was basically automatic: attack first, ask later. The demon looked like a straight-up cursed creature, dripping with that classic Hell aura, so Cuphead assumed his only intention was to eat souls or unleash chaos. But right in the middle of the fight, when Cuphead was sure he was about to take him down, he noticed something that threw him off completely:

Bendy wasn’t fighting back with intent.

He was… scared. Not pretending. Not acting. Actually terrified.

And that hit Cuphead hard.

He had to admit, painfully, that he had started the fight. And the guilt hit him like a waterfall. Maybe this demon wasn’t trying to hurt him at all. Maybe he had just shown up at the worst possible moment.

Little by little, Cuphead started approaching Bendy with less suspicion. And what he found left him genuinely confused: yeah, Bendy was a demon by birth, built from Hell itself, and yeah, he had typical demonic behaviors because that’s what he’d learned. But he wasn’t cruel. Chaotic? Yes. Mischievous? 100%. But empty? Evil? Not even close. There was fear, curiosity, a bit of vulnerability, and a huge desire to understand the world.

That contrast made Cuphead want to know more… and slowly, they became inseparable. Bendy found in him a kind of light he’d never felt before. And Cuphead found in Bendy something no celestial being had ever shown him: raw, unfiltered authenticity.

And without realizing it, that friendship started to shift. First came the softness. Then affection. And then… whatever that “something else” was that they both kept trying to ignore, even though it followed them like a quiet shadow.

But there was one gigantic problem: Heaven had brutal laws. Angels and demons couldn’t talk, couldn’t interact, couldn’t even acknowledge each other, much less form any kind of bond. It was a law as old as existence itself because keeping them separate “preserved the balance.” A redeemed demon could ascend, sure, but an angel was never supposed to get close to one… especially not emotionally involved.

Cuphead knew he was risking everything, but he also knew he couldn’t just leave Bendy like that. Not when he could see that this creature born from Hell carried a real spark of goodness. A spark some angels didn’t even have. So he set himself the most impossible mission ever: guide Bendy toward redemption.

It was slow. So slow. Because Bendy wasn’t some lost soul, he was a demon by origin, and that made everything way more complicated. It was like trying to teach a fish to live outside water. Sometimes he’d slip backwards, sometimes he’d make progress, and sometimes Cuphead just wanted to give up… but he couldn’t. Because every tiny change was worth everything.

And in the end, after so much effort, he did it. Bendy shed the demonic essence that doomed him and let a soft light replace the darkness he was made of. He became a redeemed demon, ready to be accepted as a different kind of angel, a hybrid that had never existed before. Living proof that even creatures born in darkness could walk out of it.

And right when they were one step away from triumph...

Heaven found them.

They discovered that Cuphead had broken the most sacred rule of all. He hadn’t just spoken to a demon, he’d bonded with him, guided him, defended him, and challenged the entire divine order. That was unforgivable. Bendy had ascended thanks to Cuphead… but Cuphead had fallen for the exact same reason.

And there was the twisted irony of the universe: how hard it was for a demon to rise, and how stupidly easy it was for an angel to fall.

No trial, no chance to explain, Cuphead was exiled. His light began to fracture, fading to gray as his wings withered. In a matter of seconds his fate was sealed: he would become a fallen angel, forced to wander far from Heaven.

Bendy, freshly transformed, was devastated. He didn’t want Cuphead to pay that price. He wanted to fight, to beg, to bargain, anything to get him back. But Cuphead stopped him before he could even try. Because he knew exactly what would happen if Bendy defended him: he’d be expelled too, torn away from the Heaven he had fought so hard to reach. He’d lose his redemption. He’d lose everything.

And Cuphead wasn’t going to let that happen. Not after fighting so hard to get him there.

So even with his heart shattering, he accepted his fate. He chose to fall so he wouldn’t drag Bendy down with him. He wished him a life full of light and begged him not to follow him into the abyss. To stay. To live. To protect the gift they had sacrificed so much for.

And Bendy, even though he was breaking inside, stayed. Because he knew that if he disobeyed, he’d lose the only miracle Cuphead had ever managed to give him.

So that’s how it ended:

Cuphead fell. Bendy rose.
