this is honestly really upsetting me because we deal with enough unfounded “evolution is bad” from within our own fandom as it is, but to have to take it from former “fans” and random outsiders too (who obviously wouldn’t like it because they don’t care enough for it) is beyond frustrating.

like, again. this show is good and on par with cm’s original run, especially in the later seasons when it felt like you were there for the characters more than the cases (at least for me) (and honestly a lot of evolution i’d argue is better as much as i am a lover and defender of the later seasons of cm).

honestly, and this is going to be me sounding holier than thou and like i have a giant ego (thanks, autism), i think the gap between people that like later seasons cm AND evolution and people that don’t comes from a difference in how we approach characters. some of us have a deeper love and understanding of that. some people don’t. and that’s okay. (and obviously there are the people that stopped watching bc their character left, which i can understand in a way, but i feel like even then i wouldn’t be able to unattach myself to the others). i’m gonna try not to say that this makes us better. i’m gonna try really hard. but it definitely makes us the target audience of this show. so it’s understandable that people that aren’t that way wouldn’t care.

i love you for saying this because you kind of put into words something i've felt that i have trouble articulating.

i love all of CM's run, but i did not become obsessive about the show until the later seasons of the show. season 10 on is when something started shifting for me and i started getting really really into the show, with s12 (and garvez) clinching the deal for me. and i've reflected on it before and it really comes down to the characters and the character work that is put into the later seasons and evolution.

earlier seasons of CM obviously had many many incredibly written episodes, there are some insane arcs and stories and some insane unsubs, but at the end of the day, character stuff always felt to me like it was secondary to all of that. and i mean, whatever. it was a procedural and that's how procedurals work. episodes are 90% plot and 10% character side stuff, with a handful of character-centric episodes thrown in. but in the show's later years, and much much more in evolution, character stuff has really stepped up and become a main focus of the story.

i like the ongoing story of evolution and i LOVE the character stuff. evolution is different than season 4 or 7 or whatever season gets held up as the best season ever, and that's what i love about it. and it also ticks me right off to see takes about the show from people who are like "i stopped watching when hotch left" well then this show isn't FOR YOU is it? zip ittttttt

“Do it scared” “do it alone” are all great tips, but my biggest takeaway from therapy is do it messy. This is especially true if you’re getting out of a burnout, which I experience often. Literally just do it messy. You don’t need to pick the perfect trail to walk, the perfect playlist to listen to, whatever the fuck it is. You don’t need to have a meticulous to do list and wake up at the exact time you planned and drink the exact amount of water you planned to drink. Like the biggest thing for people like me to remember is sometimes it’s okay to do it messy. Put on a random yt workout and just get it done in sweats. Do 5 minutes of a daunting task and go from there. Sometimes just getting up is a win during intense burnouts or depressive funks. Literally just do it messy.
