(Devin, 23, EST, He/Him/His)
THE PAST
Born in the year 31 BBY on Kuat, Alton was born to the influential Kastle family. His father served in planetary defense of Kuat as a decorated officer, and his mother was a member of the board of the Kuat Drive Yards. Unlike his two older brothers, Alton had no interest in pursuing a career in either business or the military. Alton wanted to be a star, he was enamored with holovids, and the holostars within them. Alton went as far as to learn the lines of his favorite characters, and then recite them to his mother as she worked in her office. Both of his parents were supportive of their son’s aspirations, while it was not something they would have wanted him to pursue they knew he was talented enough to succeed at it.
By the time he was 9 however The Clone Wars had begun, his mother and father both being deeply involved in two very different ways. His mother working overtime at the Drives developing new starships for the Republic, while his father served as an admiral in the Republic Navy. While his brothers were sent to the military academy on Alsakan, Alton found his own way to help the Republic.....propaganda videos. The first holovid he appeared was a smashing success and saw the Republic get a sharp increase in donations from sympathetic financiers. In the vid itself, Alton appeared as a young boy, who was the son of an engineer on the ring around Kuat, but because of lack of monetary support the Republic couldn’t afford to protect Kuat, and the planet was taken by nearby Neimoidia and began to face oppression at the hands of the Confederacy and Trade Federation.
Alton quickly became a child star, and made many similar types of holovids for the Republic. When the Republic became the Empire, Alton remained in the employee of COMPNOR, making holovids reaching out to Imperial youths to be loyal, to report anything suspicious and to enlist. In several holovids, Alton himself played a young enlistee that made the Imperial Academies look fun and glamorous to attend. This character in the beginning was popular and helped establish him as a teen heartthrob. Similarly his family became staunch imperial allies with both his brothers serving as junior officers, and his father now serving as a Moff. In 14 BBY, at the age of 17, the Ryloth Insurgency inspired a young Alton to make a career change, with his parents pulling strings, he soon found himself working at Holonet News, his hope was to fight insurgency in the Outer Rim with sheer charisma.
Basing himself out of the Lothal System, Alton quickly moved up the ranks of the Holonet News staff because of how many people tuned in to listen, and soon enough he was their most prominent anchorman in the Outer Rim. Nine years into his career at the Holonet, the Lothal Insurgency began, which was a massive career boost for Alton. Loyal Imperials tuning in to hear his condemnation of the rebels, and those who knew how to read the lies listening in to see if they were succeeding or not. Shortly after the death of Kanan Jarrus and his announcement of it, Alton was finished f reporting on the Outer Rim, and was relocated to Coruscant to be Holonet New’s new lead anchor.
THE PRESENT
After the fall of the Empire, relatively little changed for the Kastle family. His father had remained at Kuat for the entirety of the Galactic Empire where he was not an unpopular figure, so rather than face trial, he was allowed to retire, Alton’s oldest brother left imperial service and joined the planetary defense of Kuat as their father once had, and his middle brother took a position with the Kuat Drives where their mother still sat on the board.
While there were efforts to punish Alton for his work during the reign of the Empire, he was able to claim that, and not entirely falsely, that the Empire forced them to report on certain things in certain ways, and that he was a victim of the Imperial machine himself. While Holoenet News was ready to move on from him, they were surprised that during what was supposed to be his last airing, many, though not as many people, tuned in to watch and several wealthy donors with Imperial sympathies gave generous donations to make sure he stayed on air.
Alton now uses the much more relaxed New Republic press laws to his advantage, where he is still able to spin stories in whichever way he wants, and as long as he continues to bring Holonet News viewers, they’ll keep giving him airtime.
PERSONALITY
Alton Kastle enjoys the spotlight, and it is something that they have always strived to be in, and it is something he’s been in for over two decades now. He will do or say whatever it takes to retain his audiences. Though he is also deeply loyal to the former Empire, he knows now that he cannot be openly loyal to it. He knew how to come off as authentic, and is a regular comforting face to many people. He is also a very trendy man, knowing how to keep up with the current fashions.
