Do you guys think Grace has an Eridian teaching assistant? like, if the kids get in physical fights or anything or if one of them has a question about Eridian puberty or something then the TA can do stuff Grace doesn't have experience with or physically can't? It would be cute if Rocky was Grace's TA but I think that would only last for about a week before everyone realized that Rocky is extremely blunt not to mention sweary (see epilouge "old-ass man"). plus like he probably has a job. But yeah, Eridian teaching assistant. perfect place to slot in your OCs ooooh
I mean, you need a Master's degree in teaching in order to teach middle school students. You can't just fail out of academia and immediately start teaching children. [And sometimes I wish I saw more teachers write Grace to add their own professional perspective]
I imagine Grace would need to get the Eridian equivalent of a teaching master's degree again, on account of how different Eridians are biologically [perfect memories] but also all the cultural differences.
All that to say... Grace should be the TA to an experienced Eridian teacher.
I don’t ship Grace and Simon but the shippers did make me speculate on how it would work.
I don’t think Simon is some natural alpha top but he wants to survive more than anything and he spent years in a hardcore prison where he probably learned some unhealthy things about sex between men. So what does Grace, who clearly doesn’t care about power plays and masculinity, do in that situation? I imagine it would be an extremely slow burn where Simon has to learn that being guarded and aggressive won’t do him any good on Erid.

I forgot to take my meds 2 days in a row. Now the 4th dimension has been replaced with pain, I'm dizzy, and death sounds like a siren song. Fuck the weekend.
Second day of drawing again
One thing I love about PHM is that Grace becoming a teacher didn't revolve around him being kicked out of academia. Sure, it was probably what prompted him to do so, but it wasn't treated as the "next best thing I guess". He genuinely liked being a teacher. He loved his job. He referred to his students as his kids (at least in the book). He started the story as a teacher and in the end he stayed a teacher. His home is the classroom.
It is a metaphor for how sometimes the best thing to happen to you is caused by the most painful, traumatic event in your life.
Like how being drugged, imprisoned, and sentenced to death lead Grace to his soulmate. That first event still sucks; the good thing doesn't make the bad thing hurt less. But there's no way for the happy thing to happen without the bad thing.
