Pour savoir ou l'on va, il faut savoir d’où l'on vient, cet adage peut s'appliquer aux graffiti dit "Old School" ou vieille école, car comme vous le savait le mouvement graff ne date pas d'hier (CF:ici) et comme cet art est en perpétuelle évolution, il a bien changé depuis ses débuts.
Malgré tout certains graffiti-artistes, qu’ils soient confirmés ou non, font dans le old-school, soit pour vider des bombes, juste poser son blaze, s'initier aux graffs etc... Mais comme dit plus haut le graffiti à une histoire.
Chronique du Graffiti
Le graffiti contemporain à émerger aux U.S.A dans les années 60/70 entre Philadelphie et New-York, même si historiquement à la base ce n'était que du TAG, le plus connu et certainement le précurseur et writer TAKI qui vivait sur la 183ème rue à Washington Heights, au nord de Manhattan. Ce qui donna TAKI 183, il tagua son nom dans tout le district new-yorkais, ce qui lui valut une certaine notoriété de la presse et de la rue, d'autres ensuite lui ont emboité le pas comme Papo 184, Junior 161, Cay 161, Stitch 1 et même des filles comme Barbara et Eva 62. Le mouvement était né.
Prendre la ville comme toile
Le graffiti à New-York explosa entre 1973 et 1974, il avait commencé sur les lignes de métro aériennes, pour se propager sur les murs de toute la ville, c'est aux alentours de cette même époque que se mit à éclore différents styles comme le Bubble letters, le wildstyle, la 3-D et des techniques comme le whole-car ou le throw-up. Des crews ou posses se sont formé le mot d'ordre de l'époque étaient de se lâcher, de se libérer des codes faire marcher son imagination par les couleurs, les designs, le style, la technique ce qui a permis de garder l'art du graffiti vivant jusqu’à aujourd'hui.
