“I don’t like…” no one asked go complain in dms

okay. writers of tumblr. i’ve compiled a list of things i desperately wish someone had sat me down and said before i started writing, not that i would’ve listened, because i was 14 and powered entirely by hubris, iced coffee, and my wattpad era.

anyway. here we go:

1. stop rewriting chapter one. i know you think it’ll fix everything. it won’t. it’s a hydra. you cut one head off, two Google Docs appear.

2. your first draft is not a treaty with god. it can be messy. it can be unhinged. it can have 47 placeholders named “idk something happens.” it’s fine.

3. perfectionism is just fear wearing a blazer. write badly on purpose. humiliate your draft. it builds character (yours).

4. word count culture is a scam. you are allowed to write 200 words and call it a day. you are allowed to write 5k and then disappear into the void for three business weeks.

5. google docs autosave WILL betray you. download backups. then back up your backups. then sacrifice a pen to the writing gods idk.

6. description is not pretty synonyms. it’s specificity. the torn movie ticket in their pocket. the buzzing light in the hallway. the chipped nail polish on their thumb. write the thing not the aesthetics around the thing.

7. dialogue isn’t two Shakespeare ghosts monologuing at each other. interruptions. trailing off. people lying. people avoiding the truth. people saying “whatever man.” let it get messy.

8. you don’t need a whole map before you start. sometimes you just need one character with one problem and the stupidest idea imaginable.

9. reading your old writing will make you cringe but also cry a little because wow you cared so much. keep that version of you alive.

10. don’t wait to ‘be good.’ you get good by writing the stuff you think is embarrassing.

11. also: nine out of ten times, your “bad” idea is actually the one that goes feral and grows teeth and becomes your WIP.

12. hydrate. no further explanation.

ok that’s it because if i keep going i’ll start confessing things about the time i wrote a whole novel in 2017 that will never see daylight again.

In case you can’t tell, I love this movie to death

I was too nice to boundless sands when it happened

wilbur, knowing full well that limbo is endless torture, learned that the Known Serial Killer (who'd ALREADY killed tommy three times over and brought him back from the dead) had gone out of his way to isolate, manipulate, and abuse his teenage brother into nearly committing suicide

that Same serial killer that had broken out of prison and was actively on the loose, that had been Openly fixated on tommy for years, that was Certifiably obsessed with him

and we're Deliberately shown that wilbur understood the weight of this, that he was Furious at dream.

and then he Chose To Leave Tommy Behind With The Serial Killer On The Loose Who Already Tortured, Murdered, And Brought Tommy Back From The Dead. LITERALLY going to another country entirely, while knowing his teenage brother was being hunted for sport.

that's not just neglect or abuse on wilbur's end, that's enabling tommy's death. that may as well have been killing him.

and tommy Did die. Everyone exploded and died. and sure, most of the cc's have (rightfully) retconned the finale (because it was ass). but in the theoretical version of the dsmp where it Was allowed to have a proper ending, tommy was Inevitably going to have to face the serial killer that wanted to torture him forever. and wilbur would have willingly abandoned him knowing full well that tommy was in danger.

I have a Lot of complex feelings about boundless sands and crimeboys in general. but I feel absolutely INSANE when fans just. Ignore this part.

I get not Liking the implications, I Hate what boundless sands does to wilbur's character. but we can't just cut the stream out of the context of the Story It Exists In. if we're talking about the story As It Was Told then we can't ignore it.

no matter what your beliefs on mental health and growth are, “value people not things <3″ doesn’t do jack or shit when the mass murderer and abuser that just broke out of prison Fully And Completely has no qualms against using attachment to People against him.

at the disc war finale dream used the gambit with the fake discs (making tommy choose between them and tubbo) so he could find out which tommy would choose and use that attachment against him. tommy chose tubbo and so dream Almost Killed Tubbo. the attachments vault that dream made to control everyone on the server Included A Cage For Skeppy, because to dream People Are Exactly The Same As Items. what matters is the attachment to exploit.

and this is something that’s always been present. he specifically sought out a deal with eret instead of just blowing up l’manberg by himself because he wanted to use their attachment to eret against them. it hurt more because they’d trusted and cared about eret. and he’d tried to do the exact same thing with jack when he’d first joined the server, bribing jack to betray them after he’d been let into l’manberg (which he didn’t). 

exile was nothing But using people’s attachments to each other against them, Especially for tommy. using isolation to hurt him, convincing him that the people he’d genuinely loved and cared about Didn’t love him and were better off without him, forcing tommy to grow attached to Him and using his friendship and kindness as a carrot on a stick to control tommy’s behavior and get his way, Etc.

likewise, he was using l’manberg’s attachment to Tommy as a way to control and hurt them. tubbo tolerated dream in part because dream was his lifeline to tommy, even though dream was actively lying to him about tommy. forcing tommy away made them unstable and antsy, which in turn lead them to making poor choices that made them more vulnerable when dream was ready to destroy them. 

and who could forget “couldn’t you have just burned the discs? couldn’t you have just done it to me?” “oh this is much more fun.” dream’s involvement in doomsday was for his own fun. he knew technoblade was going to destroy it on his own anyways, he’d been specifically feeding into both sides of the conflict specifically Because he wanted that to happen. but tommy was going to be there, and watching his friends and home all burn and get hurt would be more painful for him than him experiencing those things himself. and isn’t that just so Fun.

we know the disc war finale, we know the attachments museum. but it’s also worth noting that when tommy was going to kill him dream First tried to use tommy’s attachment to him to stop him. and when that didn’t work he used tommy’s attachment to Wilbur.

and this behavior hasn’t stopped in the slightest since his imprisonment. trying to dig for techno’s attachments while they were in prison together, using sam’s attachment to tommy to try to convince sam to keep him alive, asking sapnap whose with him in kinoko kingdom and where it is while they were in a stand down. etc etc etc
