She’d been looking forward to flying tonight. Vidia had to be careful the moments she chose, the night couldn’t be too clear to be seen, the streets couldn’t be too busy. No flights coming through, no bright lights in town. She’d waited all month to take off, and as soon as she reached the clouds… thunder. Now she sat underneath a tree, staring at the radar on her phone, only tearing her eyes away with an annoyed sigh at the sound of footsteps. “Why’s it always gotta fuckin’ rain?”
-
He’d caught sight of it at the corner of his eye as he passed through an alley way. Something took off from the ground, darting up fast into the sky, grabbing his attention immediately. A fairy, perhaps? There weren’t too many creatures that could fly, so he had to assume. Alphonse had some screw-ups he needed to fix, so maybe bringing in an extra supernatural to Charles would help ease the blow that he was about to take after the favorite decided he wanted nothing to do with them anymore. There was probably going to be no recovering from that - Alphonse hated to admit it, but he’d made a pretty fucking bad mistake in letting Doug have some liberties and freedom. He should have kept the runt by his side like he was supposed to instead of sending him on a fool’s errand to keep him out of his hair. Charles was going to be pissed.
Alphonse stuck around for a moment, not sure if the creature would come into view again or come back to the ground after taking off, but when a cue of thunder reverberated through the air, he paused, and waited. Then through a break in the clouds, he saw a figure come back down - obviously not interested in risking getting stricken by lightening - and come to rest underneath a tree. He snaked around to the path she was on to walk by, settling his hands in his pockets and stopping to acknowledge her comment. “You live on the coast; downside of beach life,” Alphonse chimed in, taking a moment to glance around to see if they were alone. “Ruined my plans, too,” he lied, Douglas had ruined his plans, “but c’est la vie. That’s what alcohol is for, in my opinion.”

Regret washed over Kevin the second they made eye contact with the person on the ground. Instinct didn’t come to them like this often but something tells him to run. Kevin watches as the person below yells something at him. He explores his options as the person leaves.
Shit shit shit. It’s too late to transform and fly away. They’ve already been reckless enough that someone was that close seeing them transform the first time. Finally, Kevin pulls out their phone and scrolls to the person they think of first- before they see the man returning. Get to know thy enemy? That’s a thing, right? They can do this.
Kevin makes a split second decision as the person leans the ladder agains the building. Escaping has always been his specialty, if something goes wrong, he’s got this. Kevin begins to descend the ladder, they realize it might be a worse idea to run and lead them to their hiding places. Kevin jumps on the ground and signs a quick thank you before turning and attempting to speed walk away.

Alphonse waited patiently for the kid to come down the ladder; the entire time, he couldn’t help but wonder - why them? What was so special about this kid that Charles wanted him so bad? Given, he’d been surprised once or twice before by a creature that looked deceptively harmless, and he knew that all it took was for something to be rare and unknown to the hunting community for Charles to want it. In the end, it didn’t matter to him; a paycheck was a paycheck, regardless of what he was after. When he looked at Kevin, all he saw were dollar signs. That’s all the motive he needed.
Alphonse immediately rolled his eyes the moment the kid hit the ground and took off. He reached out quickly to grab them by the collar of their shirt and yank them back. “Well, that’s fucking rude of you - a stranger helps you out and you run immediately run off? Where are your manners, Kevin?”
