A marine animal asking a land animal to race was a bad idea. He paused to give Adrian a head start, then bent and chased after him. He caught up and passed him in a few seconds and only slowed down when he hit the water.
Adrian was puffing a little by the time he reached the waterâs edge, but still grinning ear to ear. Once the waves were lapping at his knees he dove forward into the water, belly just barely skimming the bottom before he flipped onto his back and kicked out a few meters. When he came up the water was just barely at his shoulders, âToo deep?" He asked, looking back at Ash.
Ash had stopped running when the water was just above his knees, and let Adrian run ahead. He went out that deep before and inhaled more water than he liked. He was going to stick to the shallow water this time. âJust a little," he answered.
Adrian kicked off the bottom and paddled a few feet closer to where Ash was standing, stopping when the water was just under his waist, âI can hold on to you easy here, but not any shallower, that okay?"
He walked out to where Adrian stood, nodding. "No deeper either," he said. This, he could handle. This wasn't as bad. And it would be fine, he knew, until he took his paws off the bottom.

While Adrian seemed to be deciding something, Ash turned to sit down and brushed his hands on his fur, still trying to get rid of the sand stuck there. He tilted his head up to look at Adrian when he spoke.
"Thatâs okay with me," he said. âBut donât feel obligated to come talk to me. We can talk after youâre out of the water," he added.
As soon as the first sentence was out of Ashâs mouth, Adrian was sprinting back towards the water. Well, as much as someone with webbed paws could sprint. More of a quick waddle, really. As soon as he hit the water, he dove back under head first, barely making a ripple.
He twisted and kicked under the water, grinning to himself, laughing, and then laughing again when the little air bubbles tickled his whiskers. He resurfaced a few minutes later, still smiling, and shouted back to Ash, âItâs okay! I like talking to you!"
Ash watched Adrian run out to the water and dived in. He wanted to lay back on the sand, but he didnât want any more of it getting into his fur. He pulled his feet away from the water as rose up the shore towards him.
When Adrian finally resurfaced, he watched him with a bit of an amused smirk. âBut you love the water more," he said. He didnât really care if he heard that or not.
Adrian frowned at the statement, paddling a little closer so he could make out Ashâs face, feeling relieved when he saw the joking smile. He had no idea how he would respond to that if the wolf were being serious.
"Iâm already in the water, donât make me pick!" He replied with a matching smile before diving under again, not realizing any innuendos that may have been taken out of that until he was a good six feet below the surface. Even under the water, he could feel his face warm.
He raised a brow at Adrianâs words, laughing after heâd gone underwater. He really did feel bad for treating Adrian so bad when they first met. The otter was a lot different than the last otter heâd met, and he should have known better than to judge prematurely.
He stood and walked over to where he left his pants and jacket, brushing as much sand out of his fur as he could before pulling his pants and jacket on. He was still a little wet, but it would dry.
By the time Adrian surfaced again a few minutes later, he was a little surprised to see Ash fully dressed again. Maybe he had meant to leave before he had come up for air again. He didnât know why that thought bothered him as much as it did, but he couldnât help but frown. They had just met and he had nearly drowned him, it made sense.
He dove down again and swam closer to shore, forcing his tone and expression to be bright, âWhere you going?"
"Who said I was going anywhere?" he said. âI told you before Iâd still be here when you got back. Not going anywhere." He took a seat on the sand again, clear of the water, to wait for Adrian to finish his swimming.
Adrian stayed in place treading water for a few seconds before he kicked himself back to shore, shaking away the water that rolled off of him as he walked back onto the beach towards Ash.
"Iâm here for a while. I can come back."
"No, I donât want to make you choose," he said. âTake as much time as you want. I donât mind, really." He wasnât one to run away from the water just because he almost drowned once. âDo you want someone to swim with?" he offered. His throat wasnât raw anymore, and maybe if he tried again heâd be able to handle it better.

There wasnât anyone else on the beach now besides the two of them, the air getting a little cool for those without fur as the day wore on, and after the last disastrous attempt, he didnât think Ash would want to go in again. He nodded, but his frown deepened,
"Well, yeah. But who?"
"I could give it another shot," he said. If the second attempt went bad, then he was done for the day. And he wouldnât be back here on the beach for a while.

He nodded. âOf course. Not going to risk that happening again," he said. He stood, shrugging out of his jacket again and letting it fall to the sand. âIâm ready when you are."
Adrian grinned, turning and digging his claws into the sand, ears tucked flat, âRace you." He said, then turned and sprinted for the water. Of course, sprinting for him wasnât very fast, and it was more of a waddle than a run. He didnât really care, he had a swimming partner.

I was trying to do greeters for my new followers, but I burned out my creative juices for it. They're all starting to sound the same. If anyone wants to make starters for me, I'll gladly answer them. If not, I'll post mine when I can think of what to do.

It wasn't often that his little friend, who he'd named Red, came into a city with him. Red usually preferred to stay out in the forest, not liking to be around so many humans.
Today was one of those rare days when Red crawled into his pocket as he made his way to the edge of the forest. Ash gave the pocket a light pat to let Red know that he knew he was in there.
As he made his way into the city, Red poked his head out of the pocket and looked around curiously, and chattering. To anyone else, it just sounded like mindless chattering. To Ash, he was actually talking.
"I will never understand how you and humans walk on two legs," Red said. "Seems so unbalanced."
"You stand on two legs," Ash pointed out.
"Yeah, but I don't walk on them. I walk on all four."
"Maybe, but you also eat using the hands you had on the floor," he countered. Red ducked back into the pocket when he saw someone walking towards them, which made Ash chuckle. "Skittish little squirrel," he said.
