Late last year Penguin Random House UK reached out to me to illustrate an endpaper design for the 25th anniversary edition of Noughts + Crosses written by the esteemed Malorie Blackman. The book's premise: two star crossed lovers trapped in modern day England where the historical racial power structures are reversed. An alternate society where white "Noughts" are oppressed by black "Crosses". I'm very happy how this all turned out, and...as always, definitely on the lookout for more book cover opportunities!
Blow the whistle on ICE. Artists have a responsibility to speak to this moment. It’s vitally important to be on the right of history. Artists are needed. Our art is needed for protests. Our art is needed for GENERAL STRIKES. Our art is needed for everything in between. This piece was sketched and painted completely in Procreate. #iceout #digitaldrawing #digitalpainting #procreate
MACE WINDU LIVES!!! In my personal Star Wars head canon Mace Windu survived. Prepared to live out a long life as a fallen disgraced Jedi, fate had other plans when Finn came calling looking to be trained by a master. But is Mace Windu actually training Finn to become a Jedi? Or something else?
The brief: Client wants a portrait that exemplifies his connection to both the Bear and Pup communities. The wrinkle: A pup mask obscures most of a man's face. This is doubly problematic because the client in question has a exuberant nature that comes through in the source reference. The solution: The fix is twofold. Paint the subject hyper-realistically in the style I'm known for. However with the pup mask go in the opposite direction. Lean into a graphic depiction of the mask, utilizing it's white negative space against the Bear flag graphic. Secondly, play with transparencies. The result: A fully realized portrait where a key component of the subject matter's identity doesn't obscure the client. Instead that element becomes intriguing and invites the viewer in. Not the easiest $3k I've ever made, but it was challenging and fun!

This is Ryan. Otherwise known as Sicilian Leather Bear on Instagram. It took me nearly a decade to paint his portrait. But in the end i think I did him justice.
In return I put him on a t-shirt. Yes, I'm very much inspired by Bara artist Jiraiya. You can purchase Sicilian Leather Bear here: https://durtybear.threadless.com/designs/durty-bear-ryan

Yes, I know... it's all a bit meta. Roll with it.

My red line was always genocide. But I think totally ignoring Marcellus Williams was the final straw.
Painting of @realbrycequartz and Daddy based off the videography of @catalinmedia Bryce is a Gay cub rapper who’s decidedly risqué and definitely NSFW, who’s celebrating his new EP “The Sextape” that dropped Oct. 4th, 2024. Check him out. Creatively, this is probably the most “painterly” painting I’ve ever done. Training wheels are completely off with this one and it was far from effortless. In addition, my style has changed with the transition from Clip Paint Studio on the computer (and painting with a mouse!) to drawing and painting completely digitally on the iPad in Procreate. The challenge was if the Lil Nas X piece painted in deep shadow a one off and a fluke? Or could I pull out the nuances of deep shadows and bright highlights again? I’m happy with the results, but what say you dear viewer? Lastly, one of the pitfalls of painting digitally, at least for me, is the ability to continue to tinker. This final[?] piece has warmer skintones and minor adjustments to Bryce's face. Barely noticeable to most but important tweaks for me!
