I stated watching We Were Liars thinking it would be another light summer show about a group of friends having funny little teen drama, but it ended up being one of the best shows i’ve seen about trauma, grief and generational trauma and the long time effects of it. Watching these kids trying to break their family’s trauma was sad and painful. Realizing half of those memories were just Candence’s mind dealing with the pain and the grief totally BROKE ME, but watching her running away from all the adults throwing her grandmother’s pearls to the ocean (the physical representation of the generational pain of the family) while wearing Gat’s necklace was so beautiful but also bittersweet as she was also leaving behind all the memories with the liars.
