The Look Back Machine’s most recent podcast episode covered So Weird! The host interviewed creator Tom J. Astle and showrunner Jon Cooksey about the production of the series. 

In less than an hour they cover casting Cara Delizia, future-proofing the internet usage, the original title, coming up with “So Weird”, and John Pozer working with dogs in Shelter.

Of course they discussed season 3. In talking about the original plans they shared what drew them to bring Tad Raxall back. And when it came to deciding how to change the original plans, they shared why they didn’t go forward with passing the story to Jack.

Towards the end we’re given a treat of hearing Jon Cooksey sing.

Earlier this month CBR.com featured So Weird in their Top 10 list of Disney Channel Shows That Aged Well.

TBT… to Jon Weisman (Memory, Singularity, Second Generation, Strange Geometry, and James Garr) sharing a spec script he wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

John Pozer directed 8 episodes throughout So Weird’s three season run. After Banshee and Shelter in season 2, he directed some of the more memorable season 3 episodes like:

None of us had seen it before, and he took time uploading it to YouTube so others can see it too.

Was anyone else kind of impressed that Molly knew both chords and lyrics to some random Civil War song?

Love the use of the camera pan to really highlight that moment of panic when Fi realizes she has no clue where she is.

“Right Fiona, call him Big Foot. What’s his middle name? Fuzzy?”

“Listen, this whole ESP thing is your gig, not mine. But if you can read my mind from wherever you are, please give mom a sign or something, will ya?”

This scene tells us so much about Jack. He may be the staunchest non-believer, but even he will tiptoe into the paranormal if there’s a chance he can use it to help his family.

When Jack asks Fi what happened to her in the woods, she tries to brush it off with a joke about her weird hobby. But Jack’s face let’s her know real quick that excuse isn’t going to fly. This is the first of many times that her investigations cause her mom and brother to worry for her safety.

I never, ever thought I’d see the day where this would happen. The person who uploaded it apparently added everything throughout the series, and I do mean everything. The studio songs, the demos, acoustics, instrumentals, credits music, and so on. I don’t know how they found all of this, but I’m not mad.

At that time, Sam Winchester is 16 and doesn’t have many friends, but he’s already known about the supernatural for eight years.

Being the tech savvy guy he is, I am 100% sure that teenage Sam was using Fi’s web site to find out lore for his John Winchester’s hunts. Doubt Sam had reliable Internet access yet, so he was surely not one of Fi’s regular Internet friends, but I bet he popped on whenever he could and I’m sure he considered Fi a friend (because it’s not like he had a lot of them, especially that he could talk about monsters with.)

Probably got that Molly Phillips album as soon as it came out too.

Dave Squatch Ward – aka Ned Bell of So Weird - shared his mom’s recipe for Scottish Shortbread. 

Ingredients:

1 pound of butter, softened and cut - regular or unsalted*

1 cup of icing sugar

4 cups of flour

More flour for rolling the dough

Instructions:

Cream the butter using a mixer.

Add the icing sugar and keep the mixture creamy.

Add the 4 cups of flour to the butter-sugar mix.

When the ingredients are mixed well, roll it on a floured surface.

Shape the dough to a uniform thickness.

Use a fork to poke holes.

Divide the dough to make individual pieces.

Place on baking sheet (use parchment paper for easy cleanup and cookie removal).

Bake at 350 degrees between 20-25 minutes.

They’re done when they brown on the bottom.

Notes:

You don’t need a mixer but you’ll have to knead it by hand otherwise.

Don’t freeze or refrigerate any part of this recipe.

*If using unsalted butter, add ½ - 1 teaspoon of salt.
