Apple Juice, Bitch

There’s this hilarious thing Stephen King does in The Long Walk that shows exactly how he wrote the book and just how much editing was involved and that’s the fact that all the boys in the walk are given a number alphabetically based on their last name. So obviously the first person King writes a name and number for is his protagonist, who he names Garraty and he numbers at 47. And it’s like, ok man, kind of bold to put the guy who’s name starts with the 7th letter of the alphabet halfway through your alphabetical list. But whatever, maybe there’s a lot of A through D last names or something, those are fairly common. But then in the second chapter the very first person we are told dies is number 7, who’s name is Curley IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED by Ewing, number 9. And I think at this point Stephen King realized the conundrum but rather than go back and change some names or numbers he just starts giving every fucking background character a name starting with F. I’m not even joking, there’s like three different characters who have some variation of the name Field or Fields or Fielder.

I'm currently writing an honest to God prose fanfiction for the first time in like 10 years, but its for a fandom I no longer like and a ship I've always really despised. I'm being driven by spite because the thing that I hate more than the ship itself is the fact that there is in fact something really interesting you could do with these two characters but everyone just wants to do the most surface level boring shit with them so I'm like, fine. I don't even go here but fucking fine, I'll do it my god damn self.
