hai what's up !!! this is my super cool well thought out intro post (or is it). I'm primarily using this blog to write fanfic, (mostly about mike Schmidt 2024, or like any jhutch character.... but im open to requests!)

you're actually quite surprised with how well he knows how to take care of a baby, because you're 100% sure that he's a first time parent like you. he gently reminds you that he often had to take care of garrett sometimes, and abby more often than not, so it felt natural to him.

he can be a bit overbearing/overprotective when it comes to his kid, going out of his way to drive them to school and watch all the way until they make it inside, making sure to never look away from them while out in public.

you often have to remind him nothing bad will happen to them, but he stares anyway, and you know that he won't change that.

there was a time when you and mike agreed to let your son/daughter stay with their aunt abby for a weekend, you know, for some alone time. when the drop-off day came, however, mike grew anxious. the time promised was 11:00 am, but time just kept ticking. 11:30, 12:00, 12:15. he can't help but think something terrible happened. "no, no, not again, please," mike would mumble to himself, his hands shaking as his eyes were glued to the windows.

had someone hurt abby and his kid? an accident? you try to console him, "mikey, just calm down, okay? they'll be okay-" you manage to get out, before he snapped and shoved you away. he didn't mean it. he never did, but you've seen how he gets when he's scared. when he breaks down and apologizes over and over for snapping at you.

"i- i'm sorry, i didn't mean to, it's just- it's been an hour and 15 minutes, i..." he turns back to the window, not really wanting to accept the fact that he hurt you. he hated the thought of his kid and hos sister being in any type of danger, didn't want a repeat of what happened when he was 12. you embrace him from behind and he lets you, his nerves somewhat melting away all at the same time as abby's car comes trudging up the driveway.

"see? i told you that everything's going to be okay, love." you whisper to him, pulling him along to the front door to greet abby and your son/daughter. he hugs the two tightly, grateful that nobody got hurt. the real reason they were late is because your kid refused to get up from bed until they were promised a treat along the way home.

truthfully, it pains him to see his baby blossom into a teen right before his eyes. if anything, it scared him. he knew teens were rebellious and defied their parents (as he'd seen with abby,) and he knew that he couldn't monitor every moment of their life. "dad, please! i'm 16, you don't have to watch me walk into school anymore... it's embarrassing..." they would say, looking down at their feet as if mike would get mad at them. "yeah. 16. not 20. no chance, kid." he says defiantly, a light smile on his face.

"daddy, will you let me make you pretty today?" your 6-year-old daughter would say excitedly, holding up a disney princess makeup set you had bought her. "pretty like mommy?" mike asked, glancing over at you lounging nearby on the couch. "pretty like mommy!" she giggled back. in a way, she reminded him of abby when she was younger, always expressing her creativity on any surface.

your son often reminded him of garrett, and it made him feel like he was still here in a way, a connection to space just like him. "one day, i'm gonna go to the moon, you know!" your son would declare, walking in slo-mo as if in a low gravity environment. "oh, yeah? how would you get there?" mike asked, raising an eyebrow. "duh, daddy, with my rocket ship! you and mommy can come, too. only if you build the ship, though." he answered, stopping in front of mike and beaming brightly. he reaches out and ruffles his hair, chuckling at the idea. "of course, kiddo, i'll get right on it."
