Gender Studies/ Feminism
tumblr folks sometimes ask me to make posts about social justice related subjects and I havenโt because these subjects arenโt as popularized in korea so the proper vocab is hard to find. but now Iโve actually come across some stuff on gender in my university lectures so here you go~~ keep in mind that just because a word exists doesnโt mean the general population will always know what it means, though!
์ฌ์ฑ์ฃผ์(ํ๋ฏธ๋์ฆ) feminism
์ฑ์์์ LGBT (lit. sexual minorities)

ํธ์ฃผ์ patriarchal family system (the system in which men are the head of the household)
This is really cool.
An onna-bugeisha (ๅฅณๆญฆ่ธ่ ) was a type of female warrior belonging to the Japanese upper class. Many wives, widows, daughters, and rebels answered the call of duty by engaging in battle, commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the bushiย (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war. They also represented a divergence from the traditional โhousewifeโ role of the Japanese woman. They are sometimes referred to as female samurai. Significant icons such as Empress Jingu, Tomoe Gozen, Nakano Takeko, and Hลjล Masako are famous examples of onna bugeisha. (x)

~ใใใใใพใใ vs ~ใงใใใ
Japanese is an extremely nuanced language, which can make differentiating two similar grammar structures a little confusing.ย
~ใใใใใพใใ and ~ใงใใใ are used when the speaker is trying to indicate a possibility without being definite. So, whatโs the difference then?ย
~ใงใใใ
~ใงใใใ is used when the speaker is taking a guess or has drawn a conclusion based on information he or she already has. This is used to express an opinion or thought about the future without being too definite.ย
Itโs often used when youโreย โpretty sureโ about something but donโt want to sound too certain.ย
To apply it use the plain form of a verb, adjective or noun and addย ~ใงใใใ to the end.ย
Examples:ย
ๆๆฅใฏ้จใ้ใใงใใใใใผใใใใฏ ใใใ ใตใใงใใใใ (It will probably rain tomorrow.)
ๆฑ ็ฐใใใฏ่ฉฆ้จใๅๆ ผใใใงใใใใใผใใใ ใใใฏ ใใใใ ใใใใใใใงใใใใ(Iโm pretty sure Mr./Ms. Ikeda will pass the exam.)ย
It can also be used to ask confirmation (again about something youโre pretty sure about but you just want to be certain.)
ๆๆฅ่กใใงใใใ๏ผใใผใใใใใใงใใใ๏ผ (Weโre going tomorrow, right?)
*Weather predictions always useย ใงใใใ!

Grammar
451. ใใ๏ฝใใ (yara~yara):
Parsing: {[Verb Phrase] or [Noun Phrase]} [yara- substantivizing suffix] Note: One will tend to use the expression more than once. If used once, it conveys an uncertainty.ย
Meaning:ย โsuch things like/as NOUN/VERB PHRASEโ Note: This is just a form of creating a list.
Example:ย โBoku wa mainichi keeki yara oreo yara wo taberu.โย โI eat things like cake and oreos everyday.โย
452. ใใใปใใชใ (yori hoka nai):
Parsing: [Verb Phrase [Verb(imperfective)]] {optional [yori- post-position]} [hoka- noun] [nai(negative)- copula/verb]
Meaning:ย โto have no choice but to VERB PHRASEโ
Example:ย โKono resutoran wa beeru ga nai kara mizu wo nomu yori hoka nai.โย โBecause this restaurant does not have beer, I have no choice but to drink water.โ
453. ใใใงใฏ (you de wa):ย
Parsing:ย [Verb Phrase [Verb(imperfective)]] [you- noun] [de- gerund verb] [wa- topical particle]
Meaning: โIf VERB PHRASEโ Note: Whatever follows this topical phrase, it has to be something negative. Thatโs how the expression works.
Example:ย โMainichi keeki wo taberu you de wa toukyoubyou wo hasshou suru.โย โIf one eats cake everyday, one will develop diabetes.โ
454.ย ใใใใชใ/ใใใใชใ (you ga nai/you mo nai):
Parsing:ย [Verb Phrase [Verb(stem)]] [you- verbal suffix] {[ga- nominative particle] or [mo- secondary particle]} [nai(negative)- copula/verb]
Meaning:ย โIt is impossible to VERB PHRASE.โ
Example:ย โBoku wa sono uta o shinazu ni utai-you ga nai.โย โIt is impossible for me to sing that song without dying.โ
455. ่ฆใใใซ (you suru ni):ย
Parsing: [you suru- verb] [ni- dative particle] [Inflexional Phrase] Note: Iโm not entirely sure if this is a dative particle. I really donโt like there being a dative particle and an adverbial suffix. Iโm starting to believe they can be reconciled; but for now letโs call it a dative particle.
Meaning:ย โThe point is, INFLEXIONAL PHRASE.โ
Example:ย โYou suru ni kodomo wa akuma da.โย โThe point is, children are demons.โ
456. ใใใๅพใชใ (zaru wo enai):
Parsing: [Verb Phrase [Verb(negative stem (w/o -nai)] [zaru- archaic verbal suffix] [wo- accusative particle] [enai(negative)- verb] Note: This is one of those older expressions that still lives on even though it doesnโt really match well with modern Japanese grammar.
Meaning:ย โone canโt help VERB PHRASEโ
Example:ย โWatashi wa kimi to koi wo ochirazaru wo enai.โย โI canโt help falling in love with you.โ
457. ใใซๆธใ (zu ni sumu):ย
Parsing:ย [Verb Phrase [Verb(-zu negative)]] [ni- dative particle] [sumu- verb]
Meaning:ย โto get by without VERB PHRASEโ
Example:ย โAngai kanojo wa toiretto-peepaa wo kawazu ni sumu.โ โSurprisingly, she gets by without buying toilet paper.โย
_______________This marks the end of the JLPT N2 grammar________________
458. ใใใฆ (aete):
Parsing: [aete- adverb] [Verb Phrase]
Meaning:ย โto VERB PHRASE deliberatelyโ Note: The implication withย โaeteโ is that it is a rather bold act, thatโs why it will sometimes be translated asย โto dare toโฆโ
Example:ย โKanojo wa boku no chiizu ni aete fureta.โย โShe deliberately touched my cheese.โ
459. ใใใพใงใ (akumade mo):
Parsing: [akumade- adverb] [mo- secondary particle] [Verb Phrase} Note: Consider this expression adverbial.
Meaning:ย โthe most VERB PHRASEโ orย โdefinitely VERB PHRASEโ orย โto the end VERB PHRASEโ Note: This expression is used as a superlative, and in that vein it is more like โof all timeโ thanย โthe most.โ Just keep in mind when using superlatives that it is not superlative in the โ#1 out of Xโ kind of way. Itโs more like when you tell someoneย โYouโre the best!โ
Example:ย โHotaru no Haka wa akumade mo kanashii eiga da to omou.โย โI thinkย โGrave of the Firefliesโ is the saddest film.โ
460. ๆกใฎๅฎ (an no jou):ย
Parsing: [an- noun] [no- attributive copula] [jou- noun] [Inflexional Phrase] Note: This expression is adverbial.
Meaning:ย โSure enough, INFLEXIONAL PHRASEโ orย โJust as one thought, INFLEXIONAL PHRASEโ
Example:ย โAn no jou, Mario Ropesu wa onna da yo.โย โSure enough, Mario Lopez is a woman.โ

์/๋ โ indicates the subject (who is doing the verb, what/who specifically are you talking about). Can also be used for comparison or emphasis.
