stealing wasn’t exactly a preferred method of feeding herself, though with no money and no way to ask for help without falling under suspicion of being a victim of child abuse, only to be turned in to the very people she was attempting to avoid, her only foreseeable option was to STEAL.
her looks were enough to catch a wandering eye, and attempts at blending in with the crowd proved to be much harder than she had initially planned on being a nearly bald little girl in a dress. albeit she is unaccustomed to societal expectations, though had she been dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt she might be able to pass off as a boy shopping for his mother.
she is hungry, and feet carry her cautiously toward the frozen food aisle, gaze scanning the area for something small enough to fit in her pocket. her eyes dart to her sides periodically, moves away from the glass when another adult approaches her in fear of being grabbed and hauled back to hawkins.
body jumps when she spots someone behind her from the corner of her eye, spinning around and taking a step away from him. her features appear frightened and alarmed, takes in his tall figure and the attire he’s dressed in. WHITE SHIRT WITH A COLLAR. BLACK SUIT AND A TIE. her heart sinks and she swallows thickly, dread settling in her gut like thick black tar. he’s with them, she thinks. he’s going to take me away.
IF IT WASN’T THE AVALANCHE OF EVENTS , they would have stayed home. work on internal cases , rearrange files , go to dinner , go to sleep , repeat. and yet they both had their personal reasonings behind coming to indiana : his was the eternal quest of finding life beyond this dimension and scully’s was the pleading of a frantic mother scared for her child. a small town was nothing new , neither were the shitty motel rooms or the feeling of being stared down at every step from the locals who would probably prefer to solve their problems by themselves.
a perfect plot : young kid goes missing , nobody knows anything , kids are more agitated than their parents who lost interest after the very first day. a mother believed to be insane. there are things people have learnt to be quiet about. they say nothing and drink to forget.
a case too personal to be left unexplained.
