Clean-up day for the most part. Ate some burgers. Had an argument about Kyung regarding gay rights. I just find “it’s how I grew up” to be such a weak argument/justification for why someone believes the things they believe... and I’m not sure why. Maybe because it seems to deprive individuals of their own agency and curiosity and pursuit of knowledge, but also because it seems... ignorant? I can understand if people get to a certain stance based on their own feelings, intuitions, experiences, and knowledge... but to believe something because, essentially, others have told you to, just seems kind of weak. It was a pretty intense argument. He asked me why I’m so defensive over it, because it’s not like I’m gay myself... to which I say, compassion does need to be self-serving.

More henna and beach fun. Ate tacos for dinner. Henna’ed myself, jen, and Mason. 

Everyone went off and did their own activities. Mason and I went parasailing! First time. Didn’t seem as high up as I thought it would be. We went to have dinner by this dock, Sunset Bar & Grill. We took a walk outside and saw some crabs in the water. We saw an otter! My first time ever seeing one in the wild, up close!

Late last night, we went to the beach and chased down some ghost crabs. Day time, we went to duck donuts!!! Also bought some crabs from a stand. so good.

Chau had to leave :( Ate lunch at dirty dick’s with Riz and Alex. I got shorts that say “crab cakes” on the ass and a bright yellow tank top promoting Dirty Dick’s.  Nice day at the beach.

Just a chill day. Did a henna band on Riz. Played some Super Smash Brothers.

My actual birthday, but it didn’t quite feel like it. Went to costco to meet up with people. Jen was late, of course, and got annoyed with me for being annoyed at her for being late. ??? Just spent a couple hours shopping. Almost $500 spent...! Riz drove down with me, and she gave me a “You’re my lobster” mug :) They surprised me with a cake back at the house, with a crab and everything. So cute! I think it was Riz, Dan, Ashlyn, Chau, Mongon, David, Alex, and Jan that were there for the first day.

Went to go see the fireworks in DC on the Department of the Interior lawn, since I won free tickets in some raffle drawing I entered a few months ago for myself and three guests--Mason, Jen, and Wei. Lots of bugs. Lots of food and snacks. Lots of fireworks. 

Went out for my birthday to Ruth’s Chris! Our waiter was kind of weird--wouldn’t make eye contact because he kept looking at his notepad, and when he did look up, he stared ahead at the wall instead of at us. The food was great. Not worth $200 imo, but great. I also went by and browsed the Tyson’s Glen apartment with Casey. Casey also treated me to a birthday lunch at Centreville. I think it was Gom Tang E? I can’t remember which restaurant. Mason gave me sunflowers :)

I think we got an early release? Since tomorrow’s off for Independence Day, observed. 

I got an offer for an interview with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. :) I feel very proud of myself. Getting a federal job as a civilian is so difficult..!

Working at Noodles is pretty hard when you work with idiots. Brendan is an idiot. He spelled ‘lettuce’ as ‘lettus’ and ‘sauce’ as ‘suse’...

Jen’s birthday. We went to Chasin Tails and surprised her :)

I binge-ate at this sushi/ramen place. got some ramen, got a shit ton of sushi and sashimi, and got some bento box. After my shame-eating, Furry picked me up. We went to Golden Gate Bridge state park and checked out the botanical gardens and the Japanese tea garden. Afterwards, we--of course--went to go hookah. The tea garden was really serene and pretty. :)

Hyejin’s wedding was beautiful. It happened in a private vineyard, and the house was rented out via AirBnb for the night. Wine, sparklers, dancing, 90′s music, friends old and new... it was a heavily religious/Christian wedding, which is why I think some other old friends were not invited (as they have been vocal/assertive in their non-Christianity). Kind of sad, but it’s her wedding and she can choose who to have at her wedding to celebrate her love with Dennis.

Gay marriage is legal. :) And coincidentally enough, left for San Francisco today. I had to buy headphones, because I lost mine at some point when I was checking in. That’s $60 wasted :( I stole a Chuck Palahniuk book from one of the book stores. I got in late, and my AirBnb host picked me up. Didn’t realize it was such a crowded room... one bathroom, 8 people (8 beds, at least--probably more people) in a bedroom on bunk beds. I couldn’t sleep very well. I randomly fell into a spiral of depression and self-loathing and feeling like I didn’t/don’t deserve Mason. I ended up texting him a bunch at 3am.
