Holiday time means family time, and that’s either good or bad for any of us. I often struggle with family time because it makes me feel like an unheard kid again. It is a time where I am most likely to misgender and letdown myself, because everyone around me is doing it. Because I feel like that shitty little kid who was always trying to be more feminine as if that would make my assigned gender stick. As if I should forget about when the doctor was right when he tole my parents they were having a boy, but had to tell them later on that they’d had a girl (my mom’s dream). As if that dream didn’t say heavily on me my entire life, especially after coming out. As if my entire existence should be an apology; “I am so sorry, but I am not your daughter.” As if it wasn’t bad enough already being the black sheep of the black sheep of our entire family. As if I don’t want to seem happier when I’m around you, but you say things that hurt my heart and I cannot pretend that they don’t hurt. As if I have a poker face. As if.
