Having just found out that Frozen 3 is confirmed, I thought up an idea that’s been in my head for a few years: what if Elsa loses her powers for good and learns a lesson about what makes you special?

Here’s a synopsis idea: the elemental spirits have been on Earth long enough and now it’s time for them to return to the spirit world or something. Elsa and Anna are the Fifth Spirit, so that means they would have to go, too. But they don’t want to for obvious reasons. 

Now that’s where the main conflict comes in.

But to make a long story short, Olaf, being a creation of Elsa, is an extension of the Fifth Spirit and offers to take her and Anna’s place, which would mean that he would make a sacrifice and leave the mortal world forever so they don’t have to. The status and power of the Fifth Spirit is transferred from the sisters to himself and he transforms into a higher-lever spirit so he can enter the spirit world along with the elemental spirits. That would mean the loss of Elsa’s ice powers-not to mention her platinum blonde hair would turn brown.

And that’s where the moral of the story would come in. Elsa’s special powers don’t make her who she is-she herself does. Powers or no powers, she is who she is, and is special. Arendelle will be changed drastically without a magically powered Elsa, but it’s not the end of the world. Elsa must adapt to life without her powers, but her powers never defined her and lacking them only proves that point. 

Of course, there’d be a lot of controversy over this decision, to say the least. Elsa would immediately plunge from her high marketability and fans in general would probably be unhappy with saying goodbye to the beloved Olaf, who has provided joy and laughter to the gang and the fandom for nearly a decade now. We’d get an inevitable tearful goodbye to Olaf and his transformation from a cute little snowman into a majestic, ethereal, almost unrecognizable spiritual entity (similar to Elsa’s transformations), no doubt an “I’ll always be with you” and finally the dramatic loss of Elsa’s powers and resulting reverse transformation.
