"they let me out on good behavior. i tried to get to you, but they wouldn't let me."

[She steps back]

"you haven't gotten my letters?"

"i swear to you, hannah, i sent them. i've been sending them. you should have at least 15 by now.

[lex had learned, long ago, to stop hoping when it came to her mother. and yet, every single time, she wanted to trust her. she wanted nothing than for her mother to be a mom. she knows it's stupid to hope, and yet, every single fucking time, she trusts her. and every time, she's let down.

"that's good."

[There was a knock on Lex's door]

Hey. I-uh...I got you some pizza. It's homemade. There's some breadsticks too.

[lex takes the box from him, inexplicably tearing up.]

Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that.

[lex steps to the side to let him in and closed the door behind him, locking it back into place. she leads him through the pretty much barren apartment to the kitchen, setting the box down on the counter and opening it up. she grabs 2 paper plates from the cabinet behind her, handing one to ethan. she gives herself and ethan a slice before shutting the box.]

[He looks around even though there's not much to see, then settles down on the nearest seat]

[lex stays standing and settles leaning against the counter across from him.]

"you can say that again."

[lex cringes. not even duke?]

[His face softens]

"i don't know how to do that, either."

[There was a knock on Lex's door]
