Drake Sather was a stand-up comic and writer, best known for creating the character of Derek Zoolander. He was also a writer on The Larry Sanders Show (he wrote the “Larry’s Partner” episode where Larry’s old writing partner - played by Eric Bogosian - attempts suicide by shooting himself in the head), Saturday Night Live (1992-1995) and NewsRadio.
Sather was reportedly depressed over the breakup of his marriage and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on 3 March 2004. He was 44.
