Progress // Almost 2 weeks in
I began around 127-128 and a week and a half in of low-carb, aiming for less than 30 grams of carbs each day, I am at 121. The first week I was trying to embrace the diet and not stress too much about it, so I wasn't restricting calories and just ate as I was hungry and getting used to how to structure meals. Now, I am familiar with what foods are low carb and what I like to eat, and am now limiting my calories to keep it below 1,000. I have also began exercising more often as well. I am running a half maraton in a few weeks and need to keep my endurance up. Beyond the scale, I can tell I am becoming more toned, and generally just feel slimmer. Which is awesome. Because I dread those days where you wake up feeling bloated, or just frumpy overall. I do believe that starches and wheats will certainly do that to you.
In other signs of ketosis, this week I began to get a dull headache, which I have heard is common. It's not like a migraine headache or others that sit behind your eyes or at your temple, it is more of just a dull ache on my crown. [It's really weird to describe that] But not painful enough to require medication. I also have noticed a sweet smell, like maple syrup. I thought there may have been lingering breakfast aromas from my brother's breakfast of waffles, but I started to notice it more often that I don't think that could be the case. When I did some research, it is an indication of ketosis and the ketones leaving your body.
I am hoping to reduce my calories the next week and continue toning exercises. Excited to break 120 - that would really highlight the effectiveness for me as I have wavered between 120-130 before using exercise, but water weight can be a big factor. At the end of last summer, and 1,000+ miles biking, I was around 118-120 and was very in shape. So getting there now after a brutal winter would be excellent.
