december 14, 2025 - a new entry in the same old notebook, left untouched in its hiding space for the last eleven months.
(mostly just some ramblings from Gecko and updates on what she's been up to recently)
I went to go visit Jacob, Alma and Isabel today! I saw quite a few text messages from them when I got my phone back online, and Jacob wanted to catch up in person since it's been so long. Didn't go to the GSC this time, but got to visit their new house instead! Apparently they bought it this summer, very happy for them. They invited me over for the holidays.. not sure if I'll go yet, but I definitely need to put together some sort of holiday present for them either way.
Also. Went back to talk to guts again today. It's.. the experience of talking to it is unpleasant and invasive, but it doesn't mean any harm. Kind of like how everything else with it has played out, honestly. It told me its metabolism has slowed now that it's more mature, but it will need to start eating bigger food again soon. As far as I could gather, the animals it should be eating right now have to be at least the size of a goat? Maybe bigger? Guess I'll have to figure something out for it soon. Miss when it just ate feeder rats, honestly.
Guts also says it wants to move. It says it misses the light and space it had when it was younger, and even though I explained that there was no way it's fitting in its old terrarium.. well, I mean, I understand where it's coming from. I can barely even close the door to its room anymore, and it's only going to keep growing, apparently. The problem lies in its weight, mostly. There is NO way I could carry it out of the sub-basement, or even to the elevator.. I don't know.
Where would I even keep it, though? Not in the ESC for sure, there's too many scientists I don't trust to not cut parts off of it - can't keep it in the GSC either, for the same reason. I'd put it out in the forest, but who knows what sort of weird bacteria it would spread to the animals.. Jacob's house is too small.. I told it I'll scope out a new home for it, but it's going to have to stay where it is for now. I feel bad, but what else can I do? At least it seems to be safe there.
One last thing. I've been trying to keep track of my health since I got out of hell, since the whole not eating or sleeping for almost a year seems like it has the potential to cause some problems, you know? However, it seems like the only side effect I've experienced (aside from the excessive hunger and headaches the first few days) is just being really hot all the time. It's nice when I'm outside at least, but it makes it hard to dress how I like :/ I'll keep observing my health for now, and maybe consider raiding the lost and found for something more suitable? Really wishing I knew where my swim trunks were right now.
To do:
go christmas shopping for literally everyone
late wedding gift for Ko? Or just combine with their christmas gift?
ask guts if it can eat non-living meat
conditional: check out local butchers shops - maybe look into a hunting licence?
figure out what the hell is up with Dr. Waterbottle recently (note: learn what happened with the divorce)
try to gently talk Dr. Waterbottle down from putting me in a computer (important!)

*the doctor looks, relatively the same. Some nicer clothes, but otherwise, mostly unchanged outwardly*
*Gecko looks tired and a bit disoriented but otherwise exactly the same as they looked before they vanished, other than their clothes - they’re wearing a t-shirt and cargo shorts and are notably missing the amulet that they used to wear constantly. They give Octayve a small smile and wave*
*she hugs them back for a long moment, then pulls back to look at them* I missed you too, it’s been.. well actually, how long has it been, exactly? *Gecko asks Octave with a genuine look of confusion in their eyes
*Gecko frowns* ten months? I thought maybe weeks - it didn’t feel that long.. *they seem very concerned now* I’m so sorry, I’d think something really bad had happened too at this point..
Well, it’s.. not a long story, I guess. You know how I was in, like, an excessive amount of debt to a demon? I accidentally broke my amulet that I wore to keep xir away from me.
Xe basically.. kidnapped me? To hell? And then left me in xir office so I could do xir job for xir while xe went on vacation. *Gecko grimaces* I thought i would be there for the rest of eternity, to be honest.
The only reason I’m back now is because xir supervisor found me, and got xir in trouble for.. taking unauthorized leave, I guess? And so the supervisor said xe had to bring me back, so.. I’m here again!
*they smile at Octayve * it’s alright, honestly, there’s no way you could have known. I’m just sorry for being gone for so long..
And I really, really wish I could say I know how to kill a demon. honestly, xe might be the most irritating person - or being, I guess? - I’ve met in my life
well I slept.. mmm.. for a couple hours yesterday, but that was the first time I’ve been able to sleep in a long time. I just haven’t needed to sleep - or eat, or do pretty much anything, honestly - for the past few months, and now that I need to again it feels.. a little strange? And I am kind of tired.
Eeehhh, I can imagine. Time prison was a bit like that..Except I was in a gravity-less void for a good part of it....Solitary confinement was not very enriching *they shrug*
Anywho! Let's get some food in you, and then you can get some proper sleep. Do you have any food restrictions?

Well, not exactly a breakthrough, but I did make a portal gun based on the portal room! Still tweaks to be made though *begins heating up some left over soup*
The battery I used caught fire within prototype 1 and indoor rain shorted out prototype 2
*gecko doesn’t hesitate to dig into their meal, they must’ve been hungrier than they realized. After a minute, they look back up at Octayve* it’s really good, thank you!
*once her bowl is empty, gecko sets it down on the coffee table and looks back to Octayve*
So, anything else new around here, other than the portal gun? Anything exciting going on? I feel like I’ve probably missed some things while I was away
Mhm! Josh is his name. He's a good kid. Used to hang around medbay quite a bit. Now he lives with friends.. Simon and him moved out of the esc for a good while. He came back, but his son. I am, still not quite sure what is happening there. He has not been very clear.
But Thank You my friend! I adopted a young man named Clarence, and Dawn Core! I am fairly certain you've met Dawn, but I am unsure if you've met Clarence as of yet. He works in the esc daycare ^v^
*gecko frowns and sits in silence for a moment, but brushes their unease off before looking back to Octayve* Could I have more soup? And, ah.. do you think I could crash on your couch tonight? I’m not sure I want to go back to sleeping in the foyer or wherever before I’m a hundred percent sure there’s no loose creatures roaming around ^_^

last I heard, xe was going to ‘lay low’ on a cruise ship for a bit so I’m really hoping that’ll keep xir occupied for a while. Honestly though, I’d be very happy if I never had to be in the same room as xir again

As far as i understood it, the amulet prevented Mica from both teleporting directly to my location and kept xir a certain physical difference away from me - maybe a few miles? Not sure on the specifics really. It never stopped xir from interacting with me ‘non-physically’ though, like xe could still text me and send me emails for example :/
And as for if it’s possible to make another one- well… I’m not entirely sure, really. It was actually a gift from a scientist i haven’t seen around in a long time - maybe even since before I met you - and I think they got it from hell? I’d assume it was another demon who made it, but I’m not sure how to replicate it myself unfortunately.

The only reason I’m back now is because xir supervisor found me, and got xir in trouble for.. taking unauthorized leave, I guess? And so the supervisor said xe had to bring me back, so.. I’m here again!
