Nightmare Bloom

Calloused hands were busy at work; pouring a clear liquid into a glass container. Green eyes heavily fixated on the contents of the mixture. He shook the beaker from left to right, gentle enough to protect it from cracking as the chemicals mixed together. Undertaker’s eyes moved away from the beaker for just a moment to greet the vampire. “Nice t’ have ya back, dear. I was a few minutes shy of cloning you.” The statement was all humor of course. He could clone the vampire if he really needed to, but the real thing would always suffice. 

“How was your walk? Still being a vigilante?” The grim reaper flinched when the contents of the beaker began to smoke in his hands. He cursed under his breath, pouring the mixture into a pot, where it all but seized, a loud pop followed by a flash of light. Undertaker stepped away from his work desk. Hands up in defense, he started to laugh, staring back at Victor. “Well shit, that wasn’t gonna work, huh?”

“I was working on something but that’s gone to hell.” Undertaker’s laugh continued on. He turned back to look over his experiment, finding more humor in the burned pot and dried out liquid that he’d just poured only a few seconds ago. He wanted to be angry, but the appearance of his failed work distracted him from such negative feelings. Besides, Victor was back home now so there was no need to feel that way. “Unless you want to be my next experiment. Hm? Just like old times, eh?”

          “I managed to not kill anyone.” Victor grinned, proud of himself. Usually, his walks ended in him returning home covered in copious amounts of blood. He was proud of the fact that he didn’t actually kill that man. It was a first for him, and since he’d been with Undertaker, his urges to kill seemed to be in line. Sometimes, he still got them when he was thirsty. Victor took a look at the mess the man had made. “What exactly were you trying to make?” He looked puzzled, trying to figure it out before he turned to face him.

           “I can’t believe it. I actually managed to help someone without killing the perp. I just punched him in the face. Think I broke his nose.” Victor blinked. “It felt so good to see him flinch and run away. Whatever you’re doing to help me, is helping.” Victor folded his arms. His scars hadn’t even bled for a while. He had gained control over his murderous urges. 

          With a sudden burst of excitement, Victor swept the reaper up off his feet and carried him to the couch. He sat down and had him on his lap. “Tell me more about what you were trying to do! I’m curious. It looked like it might have been interesting if it worked.” Victor didn’t admit it much, but he did like science. And even at some point he had helped Undertaker with small things in the lab. Nothing big, however.
