He hisses as the needle pulls another stitch taut, the numbing agent a little lacking in that particular spot.
"On the bright side," Carlos says brightly, "that scar's going to be a great conversation starter."
Lando scowls at him from his seat on the bed in the medical bay, wincing when Maria tuts and pulls his head back towards her so she can finish the neat row of stitches across his cheekbone.
He settles for sending his displeasure across the drift, internally nodding (he's not pissing Maria off again because he's moving) when Carlos frowns for a moment. It doesn't last long as the older man is back to smirking at him, a smug little notion being returned across their drift before Carlos pats him on the shoulder.
"It's okay CabrΓ³n, no one else saw you hit yourself in the face. Your secret is safe with me."
Lando splutters, finally able to turn and stare incredulously at Carlos now that Maria has finished with his cheek. "You hit me you dick!"
"We literally do." Lando pauses his glaring at Carlos to thank Maria and follows his drift partner out of the med bay, picking up where he left off. "Your split staff in the Kwoon and the splinters that were in my face are plenty of evidence."
Carlos stops as they near the canteen, smirk softening to a smile as he reaches a hand up to cup Lando's jaw, his thumb carefully swiping about an inch under where the fresh stitches lie. "Maybe you should've been paying more attention."
"Maybe you should've followed the rules of no headshots today." Lando pouts.
"Landito." It's soft and fond and warm and Lando fights the smile it pulls from him. "Want me to kiss it better? Will that stop you mad at me?"
A pink flush warms Carlos' palm and he smiles again, leaning in to kiss Lando's brow so as to not irritate the wound. The heat under his fingers intensifies and he pulls away slowly.
Lando grumbles again but Carlos can tell he doesn't mean it, not when Lando's reaching behind him for his hand as he stomps towards the canteen.
