　　“What do you think I’m trying to do?” She practically hisses, shaking her head. The stranger pops back up to their seat, however, and Tem buries her face in her hand with a sigh before following suit, much less enthusiastically.

　　With some people blatantly staring at them, and most at the very least having their eyes turned in their direction, Tem flags down a serverーany server. She hands them her card, requests their food be packed up to go, and then looks back to her un-invited dining partner.

　　What now? Good question. Tem would love for the answer to be, ‘shut the fuck up and just wait.’ But that’s shown itself to be an impossibility.

yes, talking seemed like an alright enough space to begin their (very) lengthy journey of assimilation. but the concept of pure conversation seemed a bit... well, SLOW and uneventful. to focus all of their energy into learning the nuances of expression and subtleties involved in communication was a difficult task, even if it was the ONLY desire they had.

It would be a great challenge for them to remain present in the exchange for more than a moment or two; their mind often wandered, drifting into a haze of uncertainty and self-doubt. Still, perhaps the struggle to adapt itself might be precisely what they needed. every step into the unknown was a step toward growth, and growing meant more room for FOOD!!!

with a quick nod, they turned their body to face their new friend completely, a gesture of openness to convey their optimism and commitment to the task. they took in a deep breath, allowing the air to FILL their lungs, steadying themselves. With their full attention now on the person before them, they decided to restart the conversation: "hi."

they repeated the same phrase, "hi! " this time, with a gesture they had learned accompanied it: a wave. it was arguably the most NORMAL act they've committed since their meeting. so maybe there was a bit of hope...
