FREDDIE MERCURY - Live at The Rainbow, 1974
Connecting with every person in the concert hall was becoming one of Queen's core philosophies, and tonight's performance of Liar is noteworthy because it is the earliest known instance of Freddie Mercury doing any kind of a "call and response" vocal exchange with the audience, something which would eventually become one of his trademarks. In a 2021 interview Nonny Holder said this element of Mercury's stage persona was inspired by Slade. By the time Mercury couldn't perform live anymore he ran into Holder again in Montreux who recalls Mercury thanking him for giving him the inspiration for this significant piece of the puzzle once upon a time.

For some reason, this has been on my mind a lot, lately. Freddie Mercury's sexual orientation is a topic of hot controversy.
"He's gay!" "No! He’s bi!"
Thing is, he's the only one who knew, and the only one to whom it should matter.
Sure, he roamed the sexuality spectrum, but it seems a lot of people really want to pin him down and label him. Why?
He didn’t make any public announcements regarding his sexuality, because it was his private business.
(He made comments in different interviews which alluded to being both gay, and bi. At least one was made out of frustration that interest in who he slept with was taking precedence over his music).
And, although he slept with both women and men in his life, the when and why of that is known only to him, and not conclusive evidence of how he identified.
His concern, as he settled his final affairs, was that his loved ones be cared for; and that he be remembered for his music. He didn't give a shit about people's future confusion over his sexuality.
And, I agree with his priorities.
