But being a homemaker at times can put one through harsh judgements too...

Does only earning adds value to one's identity?...

What if a woman or a man choses to be a homemaker?...

Can a home feel abandoned?

Only now when I lost my ground

could I realise how it feels to be uprooted,

when the roof that once bestowed shade upon my head,

and the floor on which I took my first steps,

are now no more mine,

but belongs to some strange hands...

my heart longs for my home and will forever preserve its sight in my eyes which now lie hollow of the dreams every night

yearning to find refuge in places new...

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2021 has been awarded to Abdulrazak Gurnah "for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents." He is a Tanzanian novelist who was born in Zanzibar in 1948 and has since lived in the UK and Nigeria.He writes in English, and his most famous novel is #Paradise, which was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 1994. Gurnah currently lives in the UK and teaches English Literature at the University of Kent. He has published ten #novels as well as a number of short #stories. The Nobel committee said that “the theme of the refugee’s disruption runs throughout his work”.
