Iâve never forgotten him. Dare I say I miss him? I do. I miss him. I still see him in my dreams. They are nightmares mostly, but nightmares tinged with love. Such is the strangeness of the human heart. I still cannot understand how he could abandon me so unceremoniously, without any sort of goodbye, without looking back even once. That pain is like an axe that chops at my heart.
Yann Martel, Life of Pi
If youâre my friend I should be able to talk to you but I canât, and if I canât talk to you, well, what is the point of you? Of us?
David Nicholls (via quotemadness)
She wanted to run, but in a direction that did not exist,

âEven today, Imagination is considered to be the ability to form images. But it is rather the ability to deform images presented by perception, the ability to liberate us from basic images, the ability in particular to change images. If there is no changing of images, no unexpected merging of images, there is no imagination and the act of imagining does not occur. As Blake proclaims, âThe Imagination is not a State, it is Human Existence itself.â
â Gaston Bachelard from Air and Dreams (via gravellyrun)
I was tired I wanted to be home then when I was home I wanted to be
in a car full of people hurtling along the highway all the time I wanted to be in surgery wanted
to be elbow-deep in some torn organ stitched back together with my thinly steady fingers
â Emily Alexander, from âInstead of Sleeping,â published in Up the Staircase Quarterly
Sometimes I hate you, sometimes I hate myself, but always I miss you.
David Henry Hwang, M. Butterfly
& do not ever say again that you donât know what it is to stay or to be stayed with, that you donât get love & maybe couldnât do it, not like that, when, in fact, thatâs all youâve ever known. Day after day, after day, here is your love, your love that has gone nowhere away from you. Here is a blue sky. Here is the smell of grass on your fingers. Here is a flower. A road, a shoreline. Here are kites rising. Here is breath.

& itâs up to you to fill it, up to you to find something useful / to do with your sadness.
Hieu Minh Nguyen, from âOutbound,â published in Poetry
I am filled with a despair that I cannot give name to. I call it sadness, as if that is all it is, as if it hasnât been clinging to my bones for decades. I call it grief, as if it hadnât already built a home in my sternum, as if my every breath wasnât hindered by my refusal to give it name.
I call it nothing, as if it werenât my oldest friend
Will you try to love him?
Him and his tattered heart and death in his rib cage; with a name like poison. War is in his tongue. His entire body is made of collapsed stars.
Will you try to love him?
Even if itâs a thin line he walks, with a face half in the light and half in the dark. Him, with scars in his heart and holes in his back; cracks in place of skin. He is a thing of destruction.
Will you try to love him?
Him, with his nightmares during the day and demons in the dark. Atlasâs burden rests on his shoulders. He craves for light, grasping for rays in his miles of night.
Will you try to love him?
Him and his reckless love and secret pain. His is a silent grief for the sky, for the earth, for the heavens. The universe is confined in his flesh.
Will you try to love him?
Even if he clings to foolish hope and leaves prayers in your mouth. Him, with chaos for eyes and blood in his lungs. He remembers how to fall. He remembers how to burn.
Will you try to love him, the angel that fell from Heaven and then rose from Hell?

âThereâs a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesnât mean love at first sight. Itâs closer to love at second sight. Itâs the feeling when you meet someone that youâre going to fall in love with them. Maybe you donât love them right away, but itâs inevitable that you will.â
â Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star
âBut how do you find the right people-how do you love without smothering them? How do you not suffocate them with all the love youâve built up in their absence?â - Simon Van Booy, Everything Beautiful Began After
