Starring Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine Just My Luck is a romcom fantasy depicting two lives. One is Ashley Albright whose life is perfect, she makes no mistakes, and in the context of this movie she is 100% lucky. Then we have Jake who is incredibly unlucky, in fact when we first meet him he's trying to get to the rich Damon Phillips to get a band to start rising in the industrial world of music. However, because he is unlucky we see many atrocities happen to him. First he gets dirty water all over him, then rips his pants. He makes his way to the park where he picks up money that had dog excrement in it which leads him to running over to the fountain to wash his hand while he is there a lady who was running trips over him and lands on top of him. She, of course, starts screaming for help while he is trying to help her up because it seems to her, I suppose, as though he is a pervert on top of her. The cop comes over and arrests him and his next line lets us know this has not been a one time thing.

We all know these movies and their conflicts though and this one has quite a turn of luck. Where Ashley and Jake meet at masquerade party and they kiss while dancing. This results in their luck switching, Ashley is fired and goes to jail plus her apartment gets flooded. Jake finally gets Damon Phillips to notice him and the band and they start rising in the music world.

So what happens is boy meets girl, their luck switches when they kiss, boy meets girl again and helps her out, girl finds out boy has her luck, girl goes through a conflict because girl loves boy, girl and boy fall in love, girl and boy live happily ever after

So I had preconceptions that this movie was going to be about a man-child who finally met his match. As I was watching it however I realized it was both about that and about a professional heartbreaker who supposedly helps adults grow up who met her match.

The movie starts off with Matthew McConaughey's character, Tripp, on a date with a blonde followed immediately by a scene where he brings her home and things escalate... Then Tripp's father comes into his room in the middle of the scene and obviously the blonde is seething. We quickly find out this is his way of detaching from the girls he dates. He explains it to his friends and even his parents aren't surprised when they hear the screaming and stomping down the stairs.

So he lives with his parents and not only does he live with his parents but he is spoiled. His mother, Sue played by Kathy Bates, does his laundry, makes his food, cleans up after him and all the meanwhile he seems like an ungrateful child who can't even thank her or take up those responsibilities himself being a 35-year old man. Needless to say, his parents want him out.

Enter the solution for the parents, friends who have gone through the same problem that got their son to move out. Now, what exactly is this solution? A girl. Here starts the drama.

Paula, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, is the "solution." She dates these men, they fall in love with her, she gets them to move out and start their lives and ultimately breaks up with them, thus breaking their hearts. It is quite effective in her professional opinion. Oh, yea did I not mention this was her profession, I like to think of it as a professional heartbreaker. Now again according to Paula, Tripp is an open and shut case. He fits the exact profile so this should be easy money.

Of course, we can't forget the best friends. Paula's blunt roommate who is obsessed with getting rid of a mocking bird, Tripp's down-to-earth best friend, Demo, and the nerdy best friend, Ace.

As we are going through the stages of Paula's process we realize she's didn't include a factor. The fact that Tripp is emotionally unavailable and as soon as he feels that emotional attachment coming he retreats. Predictably, people start to realize Tripp isn't such an "open and shut case" as Paula originally thought.

This movie stays true to its genre. Especially when everyone schemes and kidnaps Tripp and tricks Paula just to get them to make-up. Then proceeds to record them live and share it with an entire cafe. So it's a good movie for diehard rom-com fans, I, however, found something lacking towards the end. Maybe it was just the fast transitioning from make-up to happily ever after but there was something. Other than that and the friendship dynamics, I enjoyed the movie.

So obviously this page reviews showings, entertainment, whatever you want to call it. For television shows, I'll probably be doing a review on each individual episode under the section for that television show. It might be excessive but it's what I want to do so oh well.
