Air Traffic Control Tower in Batumi
New Control Tower was put into service in Batumi in May 2007. Batumi airport is of great importance for economic development of the country, since it permits both domestic and international flights. It encourages development of tourism as well. Besides, because of its location, it is attractive and beneficial for the neighbor countries, for reduction of the traveling distance.
Batumi Control Tower is equipped with the newest navigation systems and all kind of services necessary for flight safety: it is equipped with digital radio stations DTR-100, produced by Italian Company “OTE”, ensuring fast and reliable electronic communication between the controller and the aircraft, the network of 8,33 kHz frequencies, “VDL-2” mode and thus significantly enhancing the quality of services of “SAKAERONAVIGATSIA” Ltd. The tower is equipped with radar data displaying facilities produced by Czech Company “ELDIS”. The aerodrome is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS - an aircraft can perform precise and automatic landing by it) and a non-directional radio beacon (NDB). The ground-ground communications are carried out by MOTOROLA radio stations. The navigation tower is also equipped with new automatic digital telephone station and it fully meets the modern requirements of “SAKAERONAVIGATSIA” Ltd. This station provides backup communication lines of the air traffic controllers with the neighbor countries, ensuring (continuous, high quality, speedy) communication in accordance with the ICAO norms. “SAKAERONAVIGATSIA” Ltd. also installed modern runway lighting systems in Batumi. These lighting systems and additional equipment were purchased by “SAKAERONAVIGATSIA” Ltd. from Czech Company “AFL IMPEX”, the company producing and supplying many countries of the world with runway and other navigation technologies. The pivotal lights, produced by Italian Company “O.C.E.M.”, were installed here as well. In cooperation with Israeli Company “Y.T.S.” all strategic facilities in Batumi were equipped with security systems, allowing constant monitoring of the navigation systems.
Design of Batumi Control Tower was updated in 2012 - digital screen was installed on the façade, permitting display of various graphical and digital images, advertisements and texts. This tower with its updated design is unique among other control towers of the world.
