A 16-digit vacuum fluorescent display clock built around the ESP8266 chip.

There’s something deeply satisfying about a line of glowing digits quietly keeping time. This is my own 16-digit vacuum fluorescent display clock, built around an ESP8266. Wi-Fi time sync, retro teal glow, a little bit of lab equipment and a little bit of sci-fi prop.

Not the most practical thing on my desk, but definitely the one with the most personality.

A quick share of our latest project at LGL Studio — the VCK-16 Vacuum Fluorescent Clock.

We’ve been exploring different VFD layouts and lighting styles, and this version uses a clean 16-segment display with a compact enclosure. The glow of the VFD is the main character here — bright, crisp, and beautifully retro.
