It’s so crazy that someone you love dying just turns into one humiliation ritual after another. Constantly explaining to people that they died. Filling out endless paperwork for years after. Phone call after phone call to organize what to do with the body and funeral arrangements. God forbid they died suddenly or didn’t have an ironclad will or it turns into even more of a bureaucratic nightmare. On top of it all, everything associated with dying is the most expensive things on planet earth. And through it all, if the grief doesn’t feel constantly suffocating, it creeps up on you at the worst moments until you’re pulled over on the side of the road, crying. And you’re expected to be back to normal a week later.

Even worse. No one expects you to be crying ugly over your loss 15 years later. But there you find yourself, sitting on the bathroom floor, wondering whether this soul-crushing grief will ever pass.

the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this

one thing i wanna say though is data centers being built in rural areas is environmental racism + classism so when i see ppl bitching about locals bitching about data centers im like oh it’s literally because it’s not your backyard being demolished and your air not being polluted and your waterways not being ran dry and your soundscapes not being raised to unhealthy decibels ….

I would rather have 1000 unfinished WIPs than use GenAI to write a single word of a story. The writing is the point. The finished product is the end result, but the writing itself is the act of creation. I write because I love it. Why would I outsource something I love doing to an unthinking program that's killing the planet? That just feels like a lose/lose.

Even when I'm bitching and moaning about writing I love it. The bitching and moaning is all part of the joyful, painful, wonderful creative process.

This makes me feel like such a boomer, but I hate it how all media has been TikTok-ified and algorithm primed. Songs are shorter, designed for short viral clips rather than a full listening experience. TV shows and movies are sloppier, dragging on and on, assuming you’ll be on your phone and have it only in the background. Even books have been chewed up and spat back out as easily consumable tropes, with bite-sized chapters and mannequins for characters. This late stage capitalism hellscape we’re in has made art into something you snack on rather than savor.

literally the worst way of ending a series is “all the survivors are happily straight married with tons and tons of babies!” 

people still getting mad at this post i made in 2014 so I will add here. in 2026. that the point of this post isn’t “happy endings bad” its when the story’s only way to imagine a happy ending is a heterosexual nuclear family for everyone.

i think the reason so many white queers want to so vehemently redefine Remmicks obsession with Sammy as being queer attraction, while denying the racialized consumption that it actually is narratively, is because they see their own relationship to Blackness (& the cultures of PoC in general) reflected therein and so arguing for Remmick's innocence is an allegory through which they defend their own commodification of cultures they exist outside of.
