Sanchit smiled brightly, and nodded. They knew the way to Exki like their back pocket, after all, they always got free chocolate with every cup of coffee, and that was a win they werenβt going to give up on. Also, the place presented itself as more environmentally friendly, and they loved the carrot in the logo - call it Dutch pride that anything orange was a good sign. They started in the direction of the coffee place - which wasnβt far, even in the rain, by all accounts 5 minutes tops - holding the umbrella up between them. Their hearing aid picked up the other speaking, but they missed most of it.Β
βSorry,β they said quickly, tapping the aid in their right ear. βCan you repeat that, it doesnβt really do a great job cancelling out the noise of the rain.β They hoped he could see the aid at least, and not think they were talking aboutβ¦ wellβ¦ something else.
.
ππππ ππ πππ pointed out to him, he felt apologetic for not picking up on the hearing aid in the first place. β βsorry. β he shook his head, β i didnβt notice. β that was nothing out of the ordinary; ahmet was used to focusing on himself and his problems at hand so much so that he was often blindsided by them. while that nature was well suited to business, wherein he was focused on the best possible outcome for him, and by extension his family, it did not bode well when bleeding into the personal sphere. in fact, it was often the cause of several issues that couldnβt disappear. β i was just introducing myselfβ ahmet. and you?Β β
if they were to sit down over a coffee ( while he waited for a car to come collect him ), it was only decent that he at least ask their name. that, and the fact that it wasnβt obligatory to come to his aid yet they did.
Serina waited a beat. When it came to honesty, it could have gone either way. The stranger could have told her to turn away and leave him alone, or given something of value and she was so glad it was the latter. His honesty was appreciated and the bit about the art being decent had Serina giggling and nodding in agreement.Β βI guess Iβll just do a spur of a moment judgement call where I purchase for the art before I give it an honest listen.β She began.Β βWhatβs the worst that could happen? If I donβt like it maybe itβll be placed in a corner and collect some dust.β Not that the stranger beside her needed to know that fact, but still she felt the need to paint the broader picture. She hummed softly then as she tucked the album in question under her arm, noting that they seemed to be on the search for something.Β βSince youβve helped me, maybe I can help you? You look like youβre searching for a needle in a haystack.βΒ
.
β ππππ... ππππππ π πππ, β he agreed. who hadnβt bought something only to allow it to fade into obscurity on realising they didnβt actually like it that much? until your friend came along and mentioned just how found they were of that item for you to offload. the same had happened with ahmet when in italy, where he handed over the keys to a villa he had crossed the threshold of in years. when she offered to help him, he was quick to take her up on it. perhaps would have better luck finding said needle, too. β yeah, hold onβ β he took his phone out of his coat pocket, holding it up once it displayed the record he was on the search for:Β stonewall, stonewall (1976). no, he had not heard of the band either. in fact, he wasnβt quite sure if it would even be listened to but could not be certain for he knew next to nothing about his assistantβs choice in music. in fact, he was not even aware if they owned a record player in the first place.Β βΒ iβve been following the lead of google, β personally mind,Β β though my conviction seems to be waning by the minute. β
βA hundred percent chance of rain over the next two hours,β Sanchit said, as if they were a weather app themselves. The tone was a little disheartening, but they were horrible at flirting and they never gave up, a dangerous situation, a dangerous combination. They shrugged. βBut could be longer, the app doesnβt really say how long correctly. I can check βbuienraderβ too, but Iβve found that while it gives accurate predictions for the Netherlands, it doesnβt really care about most other cities in Europe,β they admitted, and they had yet to find a French version of the app that could be useful. Their smile widened. βOh, We can go have a coffee at Exki,β they offered. Which was cheap, and always open, and always possible for anyone to chill at, even if you just wanted to have a coffee.
.
πππππ πππ πππ expect to be given such a lengthy response to his somewhat offhanded question. in fact, it was mildly amusing, enough for him to give a short chuckle.Β βΒ no, noβ thatβs alright, thanks. βΒ judging by the strangerβs earlier assessment, it was likely going to rain for a while no matter which app was consulted. there was no changing that.Β β a coffee would be great, β he nodded, β though youβll have to lead the way there as i have no knowledge of the place itself, much less where it is located. β
as they began to walk, he thought to introduce himselfβ any conversation was better than a continued discussion pertaining to the weather. β iβm ahmet, by the way. βΒ it would have been an opportune moment for him to also claim that the foul mood that he had been found in was a rarity, but that would be a lie. any form of disruption to his plans, be it minuscule in terms of nuisance value, caused irritation to his person.

Gianna couldnβt remember the last time she had seen Taffy around, which made her feel worried. Willow was still in her usual place up on the cat tree and she had tried to ask Ryan without raising any suspicions from her son whether or not she had seen the orange cat around, but her daughter simply confirmed that, like herself, she had not seen her. Both her cats were not the kind to simply meander around willingly, both were about ten years old and had gone from kittens who spent the day playing around to lazy cats who stayed up on their tree unless they were stuffing their round bellies with the cat food Gianna had been generous about for a while. Needless to say, she was concerned, and the thought of something happening to Taffy did not make her feel too good. It was what prompted her bother her neighbors a bit. She hated it and had never done it, except for the occasional sugar or milk, but even then, living there for a year now, Gianna was pretty sure she had not seen most of their faces.
Gianna had knocked on three doors so far and answers were mostly the same and disappointing. Inhaling deeply, she went for the fourth, knocking ever so slightly and hoping for the best, which in itself was rather unusual of her.Β βSorry to bother you,β she spoke against the wood, allowing the choice for the owner to not even open if they didnβt want to,Β βbut you didnβt happen to see an orange cat around, have you? She has a polka dotted collar with her name graved on a golden pendant? Also incredibly lazy?β
.
πππππ ππ πππ not particularly inconvenienced at answering the door β ahmet had been the closest to it β it was mildly irritating as he was on his way upstairs. nevertheless, he retreated the couple of steps he had taken up the staircase in order to greet the person on the other side.
he heard the query before opening the door, and was quick to nod once they were face-to-face. β as a matter of fact, i have, β came the response. in fact, a cat matching the description was currently nestled amongst the rest of his housekeeperβs cats.Β β but it wasnβt me that brought her in, β he clarified, βΒ i donβt tend to try and steal cats. β no, his pursuits entailed attempting to steal what was his brotherβs. by virtue of what? a few years? then again, stealing cats may have weighed lighter on his conscience.Β β βthough neither did benoit, β he was quick to correct.
β i believe he said sheβd found her way to his cats, and that he didnβt want to leave her outside. but now that we know who the owner is, you should come and collect her, βΒ he invited her in with a gesture towards the foyer.
Sanchit had only been to London once on a school trip, so they werenβt so sure if London really was a place where it rained a lot, or even if it rained a lot like it did in France. They did hear a lot about Scotland, and given the close proximity, it would make sense if both had a similar climate. They smiled and nodded. βI did,β they said in response. βI check it every morning, I grew up in the Netherlands,β - they loved saying Pays Bas, because it was a literal translation of Nederland, whereas translating it to English directly would become: Low Lands. Which was a music festival near where they grew up. βIt rains a lot there too,β they stated.
They also couldnβt ignore being in close proximity with someone who was very obviously, as by general definition: hawt.Β
.
ππ πππππ ππππ been helpful if ahmet had done the same. in fact, his assistant likely did but did not inform him. that did not matter, for if for not the flat tireβ more so his impromptu walk, the weather would have little affect on his day.Β β right, β he said, flatly. there was no intention to be rude, but the annoyance at his current predicament was still very present. amsterdam, as clichΓ¨ as it were, was the only place he had visited in the netherlands, several years ago. he could not recall much about the trip itself, much less the weather.
β any idea when this is going to stop? β he glanced around, β though iβd suggest finding somewhere to sit until then. β it would be better to find shelter, maybe a warm beverage than to stand out in the open air under the downpour, even with the help of an umbrella.Β
βQue dois-je obtenir, que dois-je obtenir?β She muttered the phrase under her breath as she perused the record shop. Did she technically need to buy a new record player just for the sake of having it fit the aesthetic in her penthouse? Probably not. But had she? Of course. The only thing that was missing were the myriad of records that she would stack in a corner, until she inevitable bought another a shelf to keep her records in one uniform place. Sheβd drawn out a few of the classics, some jazz, some blues, even a few pop albums just to spice up her growing catalog. But presently, she was stuck between getting another instrumental record or something ambiguous. Her feel for music changed with the hour of the day, sometimes she needed a good dance, a good moment for thinking, and maybe even a good cry. But now?Β βWhatβs something you listen to when you want a complete zen moment?β She asked the person beside her as she held up a record with a soft-voiced singer displayed on the album art.Β βThis vibe? Or someone else?βΒ
.
ππ ππ ππππ up to ahmet, he would not be caught running around the city for an odd β to say the least β gift request. though technically the driver had made the bulk of the effort, what with driving him to the stores he found through a quick google search. but he would not stop to consider thatβ that he was personally in pursuit of this elusive record was saying something. that too, without assistance. though technically the driver had made the bulk of the effort, what with driving him to the stores he found through a quick google search.Β he had been rummaging through a stack when he heard a voice beside him, to which he looked over.Β βΒ honestly? i would probably be the last person to be able to help with that, β he shook his head. music was present in his life, but not something he reached for when he wanted to relax.Β β the art is decent, though. if that helps. β itΒ likely didnβt. much like a car, where it was not only the appearance that was important; the drive took precedence, there was more to picking a record than the album art. then again, he mostly stuck to classics himself.
Sanchit liked the water edge near the Notre Dame, in the summer it was always crowded and the sun would shine on the water, and while they had only been in Paris a hand-full of times, it felt like that image stuck out the best. They were sitting crossed legged, a salad from the supermarket in their lap, a thick jacket on, and an umbrella next to them just in case. A cup of take-away-Starbucks next to it, the lid already opened, way too cold for the weather, but cheaper than getting actual Starbucks.Β
They could see the top of the Notre Dame from where they were sitting, and the bridge, and on the other side small shop lined along the Seine, and old buildings, and hundreds of people walking by.Β
Just like they expected, it started raining when they had finished their salad, jumping up they collected the trash and opened the umbrella. It started as light drizzle but turned into a heavy storm within a minute. They saw someone caught in the storm as well and ran to them, holding out the umbrella.Β βHere!β they said, until five seconds later they were reconsidering their actions as PERHAPS too forward. It was too late to turn their hearing aid off and disappear into the thick rain.
.
ππππππ ππ ππππππ and re-arrange meeting due to a flat tire had already soured his mood, but the sudden downpour of rain only exacerbated it. in hindsight, he should have just waited in that car while another one arrived. but ahmet had decided to take a rare walk to kill timeβ as well as restrain himself from bellowing at the driver for something he clearly not at fault for. though it wouldnβt be the first time someone was on the receiving end of his misplaced anger.
getting caught in extremities of weather was not a common occurrence for someone who was accustomed to stepping out of a car onto the sidewalk, only to cross the width to the entrance of his destination. and though his attire stopped the impact of rain on his skin for the most part, he was rather grateful ( another rarity ) to have been offered an umbrella to step under. his appreciation was obvious in the fact that the thank you that had left him was not in a begrudging manner, but genuine.
at least as genuine as he could muster in his current annoyed state.
β youβd think london would have prepared me for this, β he gestured to the area ahead of him. it may have prepared him, if ahmet had spent any time hastily shielding himself from similar downpour. instead, he had resorted to cursingΒ at the initial drizzle of rain, irritated at that and his decision to leave the car.Β β let me guessβ you checked a weather app in the morning? β
