Not one, not two but three (3!) brand management awards at the new gig this year. #Winning HMO Brand of The Year from - Institute of Brand Management of Nigeria - The African Quality Alliance - Business Excellence Awards Even got nominated for the International Finance Awards for industry brand expansion. I spent my birthday week in Japan. It was tranquil and frantic. Solemn and goofy. It was everything i expected and quite a bit more. I meditated, recharged and moved forward in my quest for zen. But that's not even the story I want to tell. There's a lot going on in this picture. There's the obvious - a Nigerian dressed in ceremonial Japanese clothes. There's also the fact that I'm standing at a torii gate which marks the border between the sacred and the mundane at Shinto shrines. The thing is, this particular Shinto shrine is nestled within the Kennin-ji Temple, one of the 5 most important Zen Temples in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. You probably already know how syncretic I am but seeing this syncretism in such fluidity is the real story. I have spent the past few days in a "think-tank" for the African Union on an interesting problem. Working with some of the brightest media mavericks across Africa, I got excited all over again by being so constructively challenged. How do we begin to show Africans how the potential #demographicdividends, from having the bulk of your population as young people, can be uniformly harnessed for our continent's development? See, the facts show that there's a youth bulge in #Africa and this pits us at a pivotal fork on the road - go one way and we all get a demographic dividend where the continent prospers and its people's hardwork and expertise is harnessed for sustained growth in quality of life.
