Things I learned and noticed from listening to Requiem's voice lines
TW: drugs and alcohol abuse mentioned
Before we start, I'd like to point out that Requiem didn't start as a conventional crew; They were radio comms characters with their backstories being openly shared through texts and audio logs. So there's not a whole lot to unpack from BO6/7 that wasn't already spelled out in Cold War with Weaver who was already introduced in Black Ops 1. Also, I tried to cram as many notes as possible that would reveal more depth for the characters rather than trivia.
With that out of the way, let's start alphabetically:
Carver
Insecure about being old, yet he amuses himself through dad jokes while suffering from Arthritis and Bunions
Wanted to become an archeologist when he was young (They gave him a skin based on that fact)
Used to be an alcoholic to keep himself distracted from his PTSD. Weaver also made fun of his drinking habits
Used to be a problem back in his "disco days", though he got arrested only once and in the Philippines
Taught Requiem crew how to do a "360 no-scope shot" (Multiplayer line)
Generally patient with his fellow squadmates. Doesn't curse or belittle them for misfiring their guns on him (Multiplayer line)
However, he seems less patient with inanimate objects, including the Mystery Box
While his age is unknown, he did mention his service in the Korean War. (Which makes him at the very least 57 years old if not older by the time BO6 takes place)
Comes from a religious upbringing based on his speech. Mentioning things like "Judgement day", "Lord have mercy on their souls", and his mom's church choir being scarier than zombies
Misses his mom. Often remembering things like her kitchen going out of style quickly or saying things like "No mom, just five more minutes" when he's asleep in Shattered Veil
Mentions a brother-in-law but never a spouse. I assume he's been divorced or his partner died yet still keeping in touch with his family-in-law
Hated the usage of Napalm back in Vietnam
After Reckoning, he started to have negative thoughts about his service while looking forward to a normal civilian life
Strong spirit and a professional attitude with anyone who didn't offend him. Steering away from making poor-taste jokes. Even with his friends, he never belittles them or talks behind their backs.
Grey
She's not hiding the fact that she misses Samantha so much
Dealt with misogyny back in college
An extrovert who doesn't mind making new friends
Despite her focus on science, she believes in the concept of souls. She's even wary of playing god and resurrecting Maxis
Believes in Astrology
Confident in her strict moral compass which makes her very judgmental: "Look, if you worked here - you had it coming!" and her conversations with Ravenov
Didn't believe in magic, but she started to have doubts after seeing Citadelle and The Tomb
Overprotective of her squadmates, saying things like "I'm not losing another friend" if she saved a teammate from getting killed (Multiplayer line)
Learned combat from Carver "Carver told me all about your weak spots. Wasn't much else to chat about in lockup..."
A fan of seeing Maya and Dempsey exchanging barbs
Has a "no smoking" rule. Though oddly enough, her character select animation shows her smoking a cigarette
Knows something about Egyptian mythology
Started to have doubts about science being the solution to all after getting teleported to the Dark Aether
Kind yet very judgmental. Will stick to her morals and do the right thing even if it means making someone upset. Seems to be a natural for fighting zombies despite Treminus being her first real zombies killing experience.
Maya
Prefers to do things alone despite working with a crew
She thinks she's drawn to broken people and the reason why she took Peck under her wing
Claims to be an open book: "What you see is what you get"
Adopted the foul mouth from her mother, stating that she sounds like a nun compared to her
Had a good relationship with her family. Always mentioning them throughout her voice lines
Doesn't expect good things from others. Thinking there's always a catch
Used to run her own bar at some point
It was hinted that she used to take drugs at some point. Saying "just like old times" when using a Stimshot. Talking about a "dealer" who encouraged her to try weird stuff (not specifying what kind of dealer) and the last example is Carver accusing her of "drug seeking behavior" when reviving her in Shattered Veil.
Stated that the Pack-A-Punch is the only thing that makes her feel safe
Used to be a bad student who got plenty of Fs
Scavenger mentality. Always wants to grab anything valuable or shiny in her way
She's color blind. Assumed to be red/green blindness based on her dialogue
Cocky attitude, foul mouth, arrogance mixed with self-awareness. That's what makes Maya a fun character to spout one-liners who still have a deeper side to her, carried through her family and the nature of her job.
Weaver
Unlike Carver, Weaver embraces his age. Pointing out his old age without insecurity. "Show some respect for your elders."
Hates Eddie Richtofen with burning passion; killing him was his only motivator
Doesn't consider himself to be a people person, hates crowds and being the center of attention
Doesn't like being watched when he's working, considers that his "me time"
Pessimistic and developed trust issues after Requiem
Doesn't trust the system, feels betrayed that everything Project Janus is doing is approved by Uncle Sam
Won't go back to the CIA after this is all over: "Once fucked, twice shy"
Seems to be in contact with Woods in 1991 (Multiplayer line)
Lived a rough/poor childhood
His depth perception seems to be messed up based on his eye injury, and this line: "Death Perception"? I'd settle for having depth perception again."
Talks in his sleep according to Carver. Though Weaver thought it was a joke, saying the CIA trained that out of him already
Feels deep regret over how his career defined him as a killer but he has a hope that whatever choice he'll make at Janus Towers will redefine who he is
Weaver's spirit is broken, embracing pessimism and a negative outlook on life. Saving Eddie's family would've restored him, but they ignored that thread so far in BO7 so he's sort of stuck in a limbo state when it comes to his character development.

I love Carver for many reasons. One of them is the tragic aspect of his character. A service member who gave up on his dreams and bled for his country countless times only to get thrown out in the middle of nowhere while losing everything he built in the process. An unfair fall from grace.
"I used to be in command of thousands of personnel and assets. Now I'm at the mercy of a wooden box."
They say Carver used to be a known figure in the Department of Defense. But now? he's wearing dirty, worn-out clothes, deciding whether SamGPT or his oppressor is worthy of his assistance.
His hairline is receding, his face is wrinkled like an ancient book, his body barely keeps up with him and yet, he's still out there fighting and surviving out of spite.
I absolutely love how Requiem are written though I'm much more interested in Carver because of his personality and the key traits he possesses:
Empathy contrasting with crankiness.
Carver cares about a few people. Though if he cares about someone, he's willing to go above and beyond for them. Training Grey to be combat ready, and being a good listener for Weaver are just examples. However, Carver loses his temper easily if they don't reciprocate the same treatment. He didn't hold back when Weaver kept him out of the loop, to the point where he was ready to throw their friendship away without hesitation.
Tenacity clashing against cynicism.
It's not a secret that Carver is driven by motivation, though his skepticism tends to play the bigger role here. Always questioning the mission's purpose. Always questioning the motives of the people around him. He even questioned the zombies themselves and was the first in Requiem to suggest they had a leader of some sort. Earning his trust is a challenge by itself.
Determination unmatched by his old body.
While he's determined to complete his objective, whether it's restoring Sam or the dark aether itself, his body can't keep up with him as much as he wants to. It's something he's struggling to embrace since he sees it as a sign of weakness, and Carver doesn't like showing weakness to anyone, hence why the lines above are only said to Weaver.
Another aspect I like is how refined he is. This is apparent in his use of metaphors and Latin phrases.
(I know it's a silly thing, but hearing "per se" from him deeply amused me.)
Last but not least, his voice acting. The way he switches tones in a natural way is something I really appreciate. It always gives character to some of his most generic lines.
Carver ticks all the boxes for what I look for in characters. I'm still surprised a character like him is not only playable, but came out of COD of all games. A franchise that I used to dismiss most of its characters.
MY SHOP IS FINALLY OPEN! if you like call of duty, feel free to check out the fan merch!! ill be adding more stuff from my other interests too along the way such as resident evil and silent hill <3

"Perhaps he had been wrong about this journey. Perhaps he should not trust his judgment as readily as he once did. He did not doubt that Sanctuary must be protected. He did not doubt Lorath or Donan, who were both men of courage and moral fortitude.
Tyrael doubted himself."
Finally finished this one. I wanted to portray Tyrael as a saintlike figure – he deserves some cool depictions of his mortal appearance.
