Fandom Misogyny Victim Tournament
Round One, Bracket 8
Wuk Lamat (Final Fantasy) vs. Sabrina (Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons)
Wuk Lamat
Sabrina
Propaganda below the cut:
Wuk Lamat:
frankly most of the backlash towards her began as soon as it was found out that she's voiced by a trans woman, but this spiraled out of control during the lifespan of dawntrail, the ffxiv expansion in which she features as the main character. while the fanbase has an endless amount of patience and love for characters such as g'raha tia, haurchefant, alphinaud, aymeric or other male characters who display similar traits (being inexperienced and having false bravado, being excitable about adventuring, dorky, exhibiting protagonist traits, being in a leadership position etc;) when it comes to wuk lamat she is 'annoying' she is 'overbearing', she 'dominates the story', so on and so forth. this does not even get into the mass amounts of transmisogyny she faces despite not being canonically trans, its explicitly transphobic bullshit because her voice actor happens to be a trans woman. there is so much bad faith criticism, so much lambasting about this character who is at worst perfectly serviceable to the point you cannot even look her up online without encountering hate towards her before you encounter content of her. this backlash caused the devs, despite saying that they would continue to showcase and support her, to gradually decrease her relevance in msq and make her absent from promotional material while characters that hardly featured (such as g'raha or estinien) were focused on instead.
this is an excitable anime protagonist teenager. she is at most 18-19 years old, she is extremely sweet and lovable and struggles with real genuine flaws like imposter syndrome for perceiving herself as the weakest link in a family of incredibly talented individuals. she isn't very smart, but she invests her whole heart into everything she does and she cares about her people to the point that despite doing everything she can to achieve peace that she will still take up the mantle of combat to protect them, even against her own family. her voice performance is phenomenal. she's wonderful, she struggles, she's a well rounded character and so fun and i wish people would open their eyes to that instead of just looking at the backwash opinions of chuds being disguised as actual criticism and accept it as fact. no one would be pissed at her half as much if she was g'raha 'character assassination' tia or any other man.
Jesus fucking christ where do I begin? How about the fact that the very moment it was revealed her voice actress was a trans woman everyone suddenly 180-ed their opinion of her? Or the fact that the story she was the protagonist of was widely hated for things that either didn't even happen or also happened in every previous expansion? Even though Dawntrail was arguably the third best expansion ever written? Everyone hates her for reasons they often don't even articulate, and when they do it's either shit they made up or shit they don't care about when male characters do it. People just hate hispanic trans women that much I guess.
She's a silly kitty cat with a huge axe who loves hanging out with her friends and family. Ideal character. I love her.
Sabrina:
Yet another woman hated on because she can marry a man people really like and want to marry. This never has to happen if you marry him yourself. Hating on a woman OVER A MAN…
Sabrina is a really sweet and cute character. We need to stop hating on women over men its getting ridiculous her only crime is existing
