I just find it really interesting (negative) that for so many people, "if you're a bad person you should have bad things inflicted on you" is The Hill they will die on.
No thoughts on the implications of how, if there's a label for Person Who Deserves To Die No Nuance, how governments or groups in power will do anything to put those labels on people they don't like (queer people being called sex offenders, leftists being called communists and traitors, women being called the weaker sex, etc) so the public doesn't question their exclusion/abuse/execution.
No thoughts on how the focus isn't on preventing the harm from occurring in the first place (preventing the isolation of children from peers and those who might help them, providing sex education so molested kids know how to describe and understand what's been done to them, ensuring that basic needs like food and housing are accessible to everyone without resorting to violence) but instead our society focuses on punishing the perpetrator (unless, of course, it's an abusive father/husband in which case they're often socially forgiven or redeemed without having to make amends or allowing their victims to escape).
Like, I understand why it happens (the ten million police procedurals that insist the problem is fixed if the "bad guy" is horribly punished, the addictive nature of anger and rage) but I really, really wish it didn't.
