A new take on "sad white boy" contemp. YA. More diverse MCs. No more pining over a manic pixie dream girl. Stronger story overall.

I also recently read and *loved* SIMON VS, and would leap with joy to find a YA LGBT contemporary with a unique hook & a killer voice. 

I'm looking for extraordinary science fiction or heavy science thriller like The Martian for adults, YA, and MG. 

Like, PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER & CATCHER IN THE RYE were my everything at age 15, but like... let's build on that. Not just repeat. 

Also I wouldn't mind a romance in which both lovers die in the end. Super tragically. NOT a R+J reimagining but death for all!
