Fyre knew the deal. They got the blood from a new catch last. But when their leader grimaced and muttered "witch", everyone backed off away from the tied up captive. Fyre walked over calmly, red eyes shining in the dim light.
Rose glared at Fyre defiantly.
Fyre snarled at her, getting close and biting her. They didn't care about her blood tasting odd, blood was blood and she'd be staying with them for a while.
Rose didn't fight back, simply going limp.
Fyre let go after a couple moments, dragging her to their room. There was no use leaving their next few meals in plain sight of other vampires if they wanted her to last.
Rose glared at them, staying silent.
Fyre placed her in the corner of a small room. There was a pile of blankets on the other side, under a window with open curtains showing the night sky.
Rose glanced at the window and then at Fyre.
Fyre sat on the blankets under it, shaking their head.
"I thought your kind didn't want my kind." Rose said coldly, her voice barely loud enough to hear.
"Most don't. They don't." Fyre replied roughly, wiping blood from their face.
Rose glared at the blood. "There are other ways than this, you know."
Fyre watched her, falling silent. They'd been taught prey would beg or reason, and to not listen.
"Not gonna listen to me, huh? Fine." Rose said simply before going silent again.
Fyre silently watched her, before tossing her a blanket from their pile.
"Cold blood tastes bad."
Rose snorted, taking the blanket as best as she could with bound wrists.
Fyre walked over, taking it and draping it over her, but leaving her wrists uncovered.
Rose didn't move.
Fyre watched her closely for a couple moments before returning to their blanket pile. From somewhere else in the old abandoned cabin a new victim screamed, but Fyre didn't react.
Rose shot up, growling, knocking the blanket aside.
Fyre darted over, pinning her down. "No."
"Hands off!" She snarled, truly a force to be reckoned with.
"Not while they're eating." Fyre replied simply, still holding her down.
"There is another way!" Rose said, her voice strong and fierce, intimidating to ever the toughest person.
"It's how we survive." Fyre replied, grip loosening a bit. "Now quiet down."
Rose simply scoffed. "Give me my magic back."
"Quiet, or I'll drain you until you're too weak to speak."
Rose smirked. "I wouldn't. There's more than one reason your kind doesn't like mine as food."
"Blood is blood. Food. You're my meal for as long as you last wether you like it or not."
Rose rolled her eyes. "Return my magic to me." She demanded again.
Fyre bit down on her neck, drinking until she'd be very dizzy.
Rose didn't seem phased in the slightest.
Fyre let go, licking their fangs.
"Some warning next time, asshole." Rose rolled her eyes.
"You're my meal. You're only alive so I can eat."
"Awww, so not because you need a companion? Too bad." Rose said, her voice positively dripping with sarcasm.
"Monsters don't need companionship."
"Whoever the fuck taught you that was wrong." Rose stated, her voice steely.
"Which part, witch?"
"Both parts, and I've got a name, you know. Not that you care." Rose snapped.
"I've killed many, you will be no different." Fyre replied simply.
"What, you trying to scare me? It isn't goin'ta work!" Rose snarled. "You have a choice, you're just choosing the path that puts you and your nest at the highest possible risk of getting hunted."
"I'm not in charge of what my nest does." Fyre replied. "They chose this path before me.''
"Oh my God, you're a mindless zombie." Rose groaned, frustrated.
"They're my nest." Fyre said simply, going back to their blankets.
"Give my magic back to me." Rose demanded yet again. "You have no reason to trust me, and I have none to trust you, but you have the upper hand here. Giving it back will not hurt you."
"Want me to end it now for you?''
"You really think threatening my life's goin'ta get you anywhere?" Rose snarked.
"You're dying here, without your magic, no matter what."
"Dying, sure, but magic-less? Never." Rose smirked.
Fyre draped the blanket over her again.
Rose threw it off again. "Return my magic."
"Maybe tomorrow."
Rose glared. "You're not being truthful."
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not."
"If you were going to do it, you'd do it in the moment." Rose snapped. "Removing iron from me isn't that difficult."
Fyre was about to respond, when another vampire opened the door. He looked at Rose and snarled, stepping forward. Fyre immediately snarled back, getting up.
Rose simply looked away from them.
The other vampire pulled her over onto her other side to look at him, before Fyre pulled him away. It quickly turned into a fight of snapping teeth and sharp nails.
Rose rolled her eyes.
Eventually the other vampire left, but Fyre wasn't looking too good.
Rose sighed, standing up shakily and walking over to Fyre, tilting her head to give them access to her neck. "Don't expect this from me every time."
Fyre was surprised by that. They figured she'd avoid getting bit, not let them drink up when they needed to. They hoped she didn't realize they didn't care about cold blood, and that in this moment they wanted to leave with her. Instead, they bit down gently, taking enough to help them heal and helping her back to her spot.
Rose simply sat right back down, not commenting on the different treatment from before.
Fyre went back to the window, looking outside before sprawling out under it.
Rose stayed put, seeming resigned to her current situation.
Fyre fell asleep with a full stomach late that night.
Rose fell asleep quickly.
Fyre slept until early evening, making their way over to Rose.
Rose had woken up a few minutes before, watching Fyre carefully.
Fyre grabbed her wrists, messing with something. "Better not regret this."
Rose blinked in surprise. "You.....?"
"Behave, or they're going back on."
Rose blinked, and then vanished, leaving in her place a large pile of blood bags.
Fyre piled all the blood in the middle of a blanket before tying up the blanket.
There was a piece of paper on the floor nearby.
Fyre picked it up, looking it over.
There are other ways.
-R
Fyre frowned, taking the blood with them into the woods.
Rose was watching.
Fyre was getting away from the cabin.
Rose stayed silent, simply watching out for them.
Fyre hid in a small cave once they noticed the sky was getting lighter.
Rose waited for the sun to be up.
Soon it was, and Fyre was asleep.
Rose walked into the cave silently, sitting across from Fyre.
Fyre seemed peaceful in their sleep. Not as worried or fierce, instead looking like they could be kind.
Rose waited silently.
Soon Fyre woke up, shooting up when they realized they weren't alone.
Rose put her hands in front of her. "Hey, hey. I'm not here to hurt you."
Fyre watched her closely. "Why?"
"You didn't hurt me. I have no reason or desire to hurt you." Rose said simply.
Fyre just watched her.
"This area isn't safe." Rose warned.
"It's away." Fyre replied simply.
"Away?" Rose questioned.
"I let you go."
"You did. That got you in trouble, didn't it?" Rose asked softly.
Fyre nodded softly. "I lost my nest..."
Rose frowned. "I'm sorry."
"Thank you for the blood.''
"There's more of that if you want it." Rose offered. "You could come with me."
Fyre hesitated. "Why?"
"It's not safe here. I doubt you've been outside of that nest much if at all." Rose said softly.
"Why help me?"
"Because you helped me." Rose said simply.
Fyre simply nodded.
"I can give you an address and a burner phone if you want." Rose said.
"Burner phones? Aren't those just for spy movies?"
Rose laughed. "No, they aren't. Am I correct in assuming you don't have a cell phone?"
Fyre nodded softly.
"For now, I'll get you a burner." Rose said simply. "We should get out of the area as quick as we can.c
Fyre nodded, getting up and grabbing the blanket full of blood bags.
"Can you be in sunlight?" Rose asked.
Fyre was hesitant, but nodded.
Rose noticed their hesitation.
"Where are we going?"
"Safehouse." Rose said simply, speed walking out of the cave.
Fyre stumbled a bit as they followed her.
Rose stopped, noticing. "Are you okay?"
Fyre nodded, squinting.
Rose sighed, digging into her pocket and then handing Fyre some sunglasses.
Fyre quickly put them on.
"Better?" Rose asked.
Fyre nodded softly.
Rose nodded, and then kept going.
Fyre followed easier.
They got there quickly.
Fyre was relieved, but worried about why Rose would help.
Rose opened the door to the safehouse. "Welcome home."
Fyre stepped inside. "Thank you..."
Rose smiled slightly, nodding. "If course."
"How long can I stay?"
"As long as you want." Rose said simply.
"Really?" Fyre asked, surprised.
Rose nodded. "I have a lot of these set up, you're welcome to live here primarily if you want."
Fyre thanked her softly, looking around.
Rose smiled, stepping aside to let Fyre explore.
Fyre put the blanket down in a corner.
"There's a bed, you know." Rose said softly.
Fyre looked at her, surprised.
"You look surprised." Rose observed aloud.
"I don't need a bed..."
Rose frowned slightly. "Can I at least show you where it is?" She asked.
Fyre nodded softly.
Rose nodded, walking down the hallway and opening the first door on the right.
Fyre followed cautiously.
Rose stepped away from the doorway for Fyre to take a look.
Fyre looked around, amazed.
It was a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a dresser, and a small closet.
"It isn't much, but it's yours if you want it." Rose said softly.
"Mine?" Fyre asked softly, amazed.
Rose nodded, her breath hitching slightly, flooded with memories.
Fyre turned to face her immediately, knowing something was wrong.
"I'm okay." Rose said softly.
Fyre shook their head. "Sit?"
Rose tilted her head. "What?"
Fyre nodded towards the bed, clearly concerned.
Rose shook her head. "I'm okay."
Fyre nodded softly.
"This is for you if you want it." She said softly.
"Thank you for this..."
Rose nodded. "Of course. There's a burner phone on the table with my number programmed in."
Fyre nodded softly.
"I should get going now."
"Will you come back?'' Fyre asked softly.
"If you want me to." Rose said.
Fyre nodded softly. "If that'd be fine...'
Rose nodded. "Just tell me when....you never told me your name."
"I will, and it's Fyre."
"Rose." She introduced.
Fyre smiled softly, nodding. "Visit anytime."
"Ask me to come over and I will." Rose said simply.
Fyre nodded softly.
Rose smiled, waved, and then vanished.
Once she was gone, Fyre curled up on the bed.
About a week later, they sent her a text simply saying "Visit?".
Rose responded with a simple yes. Ten minutes later, Rose appeared in the cabin. "Fyre?" She called out.
Fyre walked over with a soft smile.
Rose waved. "How is everything going?"
"It's quiet here." Fyre responded, not noticing the all too familiar feeling of loosing control
A moment later, they were lunging towards Rose, fangs out.
Rose noticed just time time, simply holding out her wrist.
Fyre bit down on her wrist, not going to let go easily.
Rose simply let them drink.
They kept on drinking past a safe amount, not seeming to care.
Rose didn't freak out, simply letting them continue.
Fyre didn't even slow down.
Rose collapsed, her eyes glowing.
Fyre let go, yawning. It would take them a couple moments to be themself again.
Rose convulsed on the floor.
All of a sudden, Fyre realized what had happened. Immediately, they crouched down next to Rose, frowning and upset. "Rose?! Rose!''
Her eyes were still glowing, brighter by the second. There was a similar bright glow coming from the blanket of blood bags.
Fyre pulled the blood over to her, looking for a way to do something.
Rose's bag was glowing too. Inside, there were supplies for a transfusion.
Fyre grabbed the supplies, starting a transfusion.
Rose's breathing was shallow, and the convulsing had stopped.
Fyre had started tearing up, letting out a sigh of relief.
Rose still looked pale and clammy, but her eyes weren’t glowing anymore, and her breathing was slowly improving.Â
Fyre sat by her, watching her closely.
After a few hours and a couple of blood bags later, Rose started to wake up.
Fyre backed up a bit.
