This is something that used to be true but has changed significantly during the last 10 years. My guess is that this change is mostly due to porn and onlyfans becoming more normalized and accessible, but also due to other factors.

No one dates younger because they can't get older, but many date older because they can't get younger. Perhaps the majority of the men in their 40s would prefer a girlfriend who is some 15-10 years younger at least.

The real reason is jealousy. Men are jealous to other guys who date young energetic beautiful women. Women are jealous because they feel like they are no longer attractive.
