Mothra? Like, the Mothra? Jacob had already been dead by the time that craziness had gone down, but there was hardly a being in existence that didnât know about that. Normally, he would have been much more skeptical of such a claim, but the intensity of her presence was more than enough to satisfy any of his doubts. But instead of offering him any comfort, it just makes him that much more uneasy.
A Titan? What could he possibly want from a Titan? What would one even give him if anything at all? He was more likely to be ripped apart by one quite honestly, and he knew heâd deserve it. His body surged with guilt as memories flooded his mind of the misdeeds of his life. He was trying to do better in death, but did it really count for that much in the presence of a being such as this?
He nodded slowly as she spoke, his sense of unease fluctuating like the tides. How appropriate that she be called MoonâŚthough did that make him the sea? He certainly didnât feel nearly so vast. Still, there was a truth to what she said that tugged at something deep within him. In life he was sure he would have tried to ignore it, but now, his very being ached for a shred of comfort.
As much as he power unnerved him, there was something about her that made him want to cling to her presence.
âI thinkâŚI think I am seeking forgiveness or something close to it,â the ghost replied, unable to hold her gaze. âIâm sure I donât have to list my sins to a being like youâŚI guess I just thoughtâŚmaybe, maybe if I found you Iâd feel better. That sounds silly out loud. Iâm not owed forgiveness. I know that, butâŚI crave it just the same.â
âDonât be afraidââ She hums, with a tilt of her head, a soft hand reaching out to brush the back of his own. âI am not the executioner. Even if I was, I could do no harm to you, as you are now. Especially not within this limited form of mine.âÂ
So he came for forgiveness? It reminds her of when she was worshipped eons ago, and all types came for shelter beneath her mighty wings and she accepted all of them, no matter their past. She herself had to learn patience and love over the eonsâ she wasnât always the peaceful being who now stands before him, and it shows, even still, with figures like King Ghidorah. Itâs because sheâs made so many mistakes in the past that sheâs able to be who she is today, and sheâs still learning new things about humans, in this new form. She senses that she always will continue to grow and change, for as long as she exists.Â
âIt doesnât matter whether or not you feel you deserve it.â She begins, her tone maintaining the same gentleness as before, âWhat matters is if you truly want to change, and are willing to put in the soul searching to change. In that situation, I believe in forgiveness.âÂ
Certainly, Mothra has come down hard and fast on the arrogant in the past, but theyâve never been repentant when they directly wronged herâ theyâve only done it for fear of their own lives being cut short, never from a true desire to change. She doesnât know which applies to the ghost before her yet, but until she figures it out, she will continue to treat him with dignity and gentleness. Sheâs always had a sympathetic spot for the wandering hungry ghosts in the world, without a family to call their own.Â
âWhat may I call you, lonely spirit?âÂ
