So I was pretty nervous about doing OC-tober, so when I was making my spreadsheet saying who I was going to draw and when, I put Pooah first because she is the easiest by far. The joke ended up being on me because I am busy later this week, so I had to spend today doing some of the harder stuff so I'd have a buffer when I'd be away from my PC.
But that doesn't matter because behold Pooah. I'm going to put character explanations as they arrive, I think. So my girl and I apologise because this is a little complex.
So in the world that Affonics takes place in, on one of many planets, there exists a crater full of strange goo that is actually a colonial organism. When another creature falls into the crater, some of the goo assimilates it and forms a new creature that can use most or all of the same biological functions as the one it assimilated.
When a human falls in, the new creature that is created has human levels of capacity for intelligence but none of the memories of what it came from. Some view this as a form of reincarnation, others as necromancy, and its existence has caused no end of theological and metaphysical debate. Regardless, the creature now exists. For many who lose someone to the crater, the existence of something formed from it is disturbing; for others it is comforting, though it is rare for people to have the ability to care for newborn humans, let alone a baby created from such turbulent circumstances. So most of them end up in intergalactic orphanages.
That is what happened to Pooah.
Pooah knows nothing of the human who died to bring her into existence. She doesn't know how much of who she is is tied up in what she inherited. But she does know a lot of things. She knows the workings of a spaceship better than most of the empire's best shipbuilders. She knows it's always important to follow safety protocols, and she knows the world she was born into is cruel and unfair and that there is no way that she and the friends she found can live happily within the laws the empire sets down for them. So when 2 of her childhood friends find a way to steal a recovery ship and make their living as outlaws rather than work for one of the galaxy's megacorporations, working them to death for only a pittance, she jumps at the suggestion and joins their small 3-person crew as they journey across the stars.

Hey. So this is somthing I've been working on for a while. About a year ago I started thinking about an old story idea from my late teens and talked about it with some friends and realised that while it needed some work, I did really have something there. But when I was thinking about writing it i realised that I have always known in my heart I want this to be a comic and my art skills were not there at all. So rather than abandon it I decieded, well its a skill. i just have to get better. And here we are. I still dont feel there yet but i do feel like i am ready to post some stuff about the characters, so OC blog.
