ON to BC

The final day!

After a great night just outside Edmonton, we started the home stretch! It was another beautiful sunny day, and we saw some great things.

We saw the worlds largest Bunnik (I think that's what it was called), which is a Russian game piece. It looked like a giant grey torso, odd. It was at one of our stops in a small town called Unity. Probably the best stop of the day.

We had the sun behind us today, so didn't have to worry about baking like we had been the two previous days, and drove past the worlds biggest Beaver in Alberta.

We also drove by km 0 of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek. We didn't stop, but there is a great little diner there we stopped at in the summer. Would recommend it, and am eager to go back.

We came home to this amazing sign welcoming us, and we unloaded and crashed super early after some good company and hugs.

Day four !

This day nothing too exciting happend, we drove into Saskatchewan and had a gorgeous bright day of driving. Almost too hot with all that sunshine on us.

The first hour leaving Winnipeg was sheer ice, so basically a crawl down the road. Until we got to bare roads, then it was a very very straight shot up to meet up with my buddy Amy!

Amy has a huge gentle giant named Boone, and he was such a big suck for love. We hung out, made nachos (God I missed home cooking), and had an amazing time.

Amazing breakfast made by Amy, and Boone was my cuddle buddy. I can't wait for us all to meet up again to hangout.

Day three!

Today we left Ontario, and the rock shield was instantly dropped to flat in Manitoba. I'll admit I think this was my least favourite leg of our trip.

After leaving Thunder Bay, we hit a sudden blizzard are thought we'd have to bunk down in Kenora. It cleared right up, so we carried on after a bit of a break and driver switch.

About a hour into Manitoba we hit black ice on the highway, and were soaring into the ditch at 100km/h. Everyone was just fine, no damage to the vehicle, and we were pulled out 15 minutes later. Just a bit shaken, and watched the sunset as we went for the ride out of the ditch. (I got us stuck really good)

After that we drove very carefully, as the storm had another wave right outside Winnipeg and the roads were rough. The city ended up closing all outgoing lanes, so everyone was locked in and were so very happy to be in bed.

Day two!

Today ended up being a really gorgeous drive, despite how we dipped in and out of some intense fog as we rose in altitude. Radio stations: zero.

Today we got to see some pretty neat Canadian monuments. Worlds biggest Nickle in Sudbury, we stopped in Wawa, and saw the world's biggest Canada goose statue, then moved along to drive through White River where Winnie the Pooh's creator bought the famous bear cub who inspired the story, and finally we saw the monument to Terry Fox.

The drive was a-okay despite a spots of serious fog, and heavy rain as we approached Thunder Bay. We were glad to get to our hotel and crash.

Day one!

A belated update due to craziness of the past days, but our first day went great! It was emotional, and felt like such a long day. We travelled all the way to Sault Ste. Marie, which was seven hours of driving, roughly 800 km, and was a beautiful clear day.

Best stop along the way was at exit 214 in Perry Sound, which had a Licks, Timmies, gas, and a clean spot to stretch our legs. We grabbed a coffee, and admired the cliff walls of the Candian rock shield. Beautiful !

At some point we accidentally booked a hotel in Sault Ste. Marie MI, instead of ON... but we corrected that pretty quickly.

The kitties did amazing, Octavia thinks nothing is happening is chats whenever you look or speak to her. Charlie is over it, but surprisingly barely complaining unless we go over a bump, Theadora watches out the windows and enjoys pets. This night Thea was a little spooked, so Charlie helped her out by snuggling her until she felt better.

And with that the kitties are ready to roll!

Charlie (blue) is comical as always. Strap him in, and suddenly walking is a challenge. He'll go any direction but forward. Including sideways, and a backward shuffle. All while meowing in hopes of being picked up... That is until it's dinner time, where he realizes he can walks 100% normal. Though opts to lay down to eat, which is hilarious. Drama.

Theadora (purple), and Ocativa (pokadots), both don't have a care in the world and carry on as normal. Our girls are tough, and are easy going. Thea had her before trip vaccines today since she was a little behind. She is a great car companion, and watches the world go by with a few chirps for attention. The little kitties were up to date on all their medical needs luckily.

After weeks of prep and small packing, two very crazy days packing, everything is gone in only two hours with only a few feet left of space on our truck! Kitties (especially Charlie) spent it hiding in the basement from the scary action, and are chatty as usual today.
