The same scene keeps popping up in Adrien's nightmares.

The same scene keeps popping up in Adrien's nightmares.
Marinette in a pile on the floor, sobbing.
His hand trying to reach out to a purple butterfly heading her way, like in slow motion.
“I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to break your heart. I just thought you didn't love me anymore. There's no universe in which I'd want to cause you such pain that you get akumatized. I don't want to have to fight you ever again.”
But his mouth doesn't obey. His lips are frozen. The words get caught in his throat. All he can do is to watch her succumb to utter despair.
Metal cold lips. Metal thorns in her hair. Cold glossy purple skin. Dazzlingly bright but eerie and empty eyes, as if she'd already cried them out and there were no tears left. Voice distorted by pain.
Even distraught, she was still soft and gentle with him. There was no hint of hate or revengefulness in her luminous eyes. She didn't want to hurt anyone, not even him (especially not him), despite the fact that he'd yelled at her and blamed her for something she'd never done, just a few minutes ago.
It was amazing and genuinely terrifying. He'd prefer her to lash out at him, to yell at him. That's what he deserved for being gullible, for believing the disgusting game those guys were playing. He'd prefer her to fight him, even for a little while. Not to smile softly with her purple lips. But she stayed true to herself. Always selfless, always caring, despite her heartbreak. That was his Marinette! What else did he expect from her?

It's over between us.
Her wide, dull eyes probably will haunt him to the grave and beyond. As if Adrien just issued the death sentence to her.
How could he look into her pale shocked face and into her pleading eyes and think that she'd fallen out of love with him? How could he turn away and abandon her to her despair without giving her the slightest chance to explain anything?
How could he be so cruel to say these words to her eyes? Right to these cerulean eyes of hers that have always been full of nothing but love and tenderness for him?

Her eyes were now shining so brightly again, clear and blue as the sky after the rainstorm; the tears had long dried. She was smiling at him again, as if nothing had ever happened.
The storm was over. Marinette seemed to have forgiven him. But did he really deserve it?
Her wound was invisible, covered with a bandaid, but it was still there. He knew it. It still was bleeding. It was still hurting. He could see it in the shy glances Marinette sent him every now and then. He knew there was an unasked question hanging in the air.
“What if something were to happen again? What if I lose my Adrien again?”
Every gesture, every glance, every word was vibrating with tension like a stretched string ready to break. Even the softest of her smiles was still twitching at the edges.
How could he inflict this on her? How could he believe that she'd cheated? What came over him?
He was the only person who could answer these questions. But he had no clue.

“I'm no longer Marinette.”
Pain, so much pain. Pain in her voice. Burning pain in his chest. His heart is about to burst with love and guilt.
Thankfully, it was just a nightmare. He would always wake up to Plagg asking him, “You okay, kid?”, his neon green eyes blinking worriedly at him in the dark.
He would get up and meet Marinette again. He would share breakfast with her and ride to school with her, wrapping his arms around her waist, placing his head on her shoulder and relishing her closeness.
He would hold her tight and never let go, just like he did in an attempt to stop her when she was still under the megakuma's control, just like he did when she was freshly deakumatized, just like he would always do from now on. He needed to feel her warmth, to know that she was still by his side. He would hold her, cherish her and kiss away the lingering pain. He would cradle her in his arms like the most precious thing in the world.
After all, this all probably was for the best. The storm had been rough, but it made their bond so much stronger. As of late, he had been getting too comfortable taking Marinette's love for granted. The possibility of not having her by his side one day had never crossed his mind. It had to stop. He needed this lesson to appreciate Marinette and her love more.
“Don't you try to tell me you've never been interested in her.”
It was jealousy speaking, clouding his mind, poisoning his soul. He mustn't let it happen again. He should talk to Dr. Psiquat, she certainly knows how to help. He must learn how to handle his jealousy, or else he might lose Marinette one day.
“Let me touch you so that you'fall in love with me again.”
This must stay in the past. Nothing but a distant echo of something long forgotten. Something that will always dissipate at the first light of dawn.
“My heart is already wrenched.”
Adrien clenched his fists in the dark of his room, tears gathering in his eyes.
Marinette might think he’s an arrogant nepo baby but she can’t deny Adrien Agreste is attractive, especially when she’s lacing him up into a couture shirt.
Adrien thinks the new intern is cute when she’s annoyed.
Marinette struggled with putting the vest on with all the sensors on it, which acted as targets for people to hit with their guns. Adrien finished clipping his vest on and went to work helping Marinette into her own and loosening and tightening down straps to make it fit better.
“Good?” Adrien held up a thumb with raised eyebrows and watched her nod.
“Merci,” Marinette blushed, and he leaned in to softly kiss her.
He grabbed two laser guns and held them out for her to pick one. She took the pink one in his right hand, while he kept the green one. The person, running the game, started grabbing their attention to run down the rules they had to adhere to once they were inside the dark room filled with black lights and neon painted obstacles and barricades.
