If you look back at the Shakira of 6 years ago, how was she?

Well I didn’t have children, I was free (laughs). I was traveling all over the world without fixed schedules. Now I can say I’m a satellite of my family. My family is the center of my world so clearly this has meant a big change in my life. When you are not alone and you have to watch over someone, take care of them, look after the well-being of others, in this case of my children, of course you change the way of seeing things. My family is absolutely the essential element of my life.

Did your children inherit your character?

Yes, both of them. Unfortunately they inherit lots of things from me. (laughs) 

Would you like to tell us how did you choose the names of your children?

Milan was chosen by his father. Gerard proposed the name to me and I liked it.

Because he would like to play for Milan?

You have to ask this one to him (laughs) But I do not think so, his heart beats for Barca. I think he is one of the few players born and raised there, he has totally internalized the team’s idiology and I think currently there is no enough money or anything in the world that could buy him. His loyalty and dedication are all for Barca. I think now it’s hard to find players who act in this way, now players are a sort of mercenaries, they come and go, they move from one team to another.

In Italy there’s Totti who has always played for AS Rome.

Well Gerard when he was younger he went to play in Manchester but always with the goal of returning to Barca and since he settled there I think he has became an institution fo the team. However I am his partner so of course I’m not objective. (laughs)

Do you like football or you follow it just for love?

(Laughs) Love made me like it more than I used to. 

Did Gerard push you to come back on stage?

Well he was one of my main promoters. (laughs) He told me “go to work” and I said “no, I want to stay here with you”. (laughs) Well you know how important is for me, as for all the women, to realize themselves on a personal as well as on professional level. Gerard was my main supporter.

In “Me enamoré” you tell your love story.

Let’s say this song is a kind of documentary telling how our relationship started but clearly there are many details that do not find space in a song. 

Can we say that this man revolutionized your life?

Definitely. I used to say “Me with a football player? Never ever!”. I would never imagine myself with a football player. I used to say I would never do many things and yet I ended up doing all of them. So let’s say it has been a sweet punishment of fate. 

Is it important to have a man as Gerard for an artist like you?

Certainly. He completes me, we are similar in many things, for example we share birthday, both of us were born the 2nd February, and we are both very passionate, intense, we both live to the fullest. He is calmer and more peaceful than me, I’m more dramatic but that’s because I’m a woman and he’s a man. (laughs)

Would you like to have a third child?

If he/she arrives he/she will be welcomeb but now we have 2 children who are worth for 6. (laughs) They dance, play, move all day. At 23 (11 p.m.) I’m exhausted. 

What do you like to do with them on a free day?

Well we like to do what all the families do, we are a normal family, we seek normality.

Do you often dance at home?

Sometimes. Sasha asks to dance more, he really likes music, Milan is more passionate about sports but Sasha is also very sportive. I think it’s too soon to say for what they have a feel. In my opinion children should not be labeled at such an early age because they change continually, their tastes change.
