Directly above them, the footsteps halted.

Lucaera’s breath died in her throat.

She pressed her lips to Jaehaera’s soft head as though she might seal the child’s silence with a kiss alone. Fine strands of hair brushed against her mouth, and she breathed in her daughter’s faint, milky warmth. Yet it brought no comfort.

An endless moment passed.

Then, slowly, the sounds receded. Farther away. Away from them.

Only then did Lucaera realize she had not been breathing. Beside her, Ser Rymun’s shoulders loosened by the smallest degree.

For a time neither spoke. In the dark there was only their ragged breathing, the faint sleep-murmurs of the twins, and Ser Rymun’s hand still encircling her arm. He seemed to notice it only then.

At once he would have withdrawn. But Lucaera’s hand shot out before thought could stop her, and she caught his wrist, just as she had once in that alehouse. Only for a heartbeat.

Their eyes met in the trembling glow of the lantern.

"We must continue, my queen," Ser Rymun said at last, very softly.

Lucaera nodded. She held her children tighter still. Then he stepped away.

I just can't see how Lucy would be able to forgive him for putting her against her family and also putting an even bigger target on the twins' backs. How can Aegon forgive her for abandoning him when he's just trying to save his family? I have no idea but I'm excited to find out what you have planned next.

her leaving aegon has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with their children. people really thought she was going to run to rhaenyra. goddammm…. she wanted to flee from war, not run to the other side of it ……

she isnt scared of aegon, but very scared about the choices he will have to make. because despite how some readers view her, she is not naive, not cowardly, not stupid. she is actually making the smartest decision by trying to leave kings landing. because war is coming, no matter what.

i think both of them, very deep down, see each other's motivations. aegon becomes king to save himself, his family, and, most importantly, his children. lucaera tries to leave him to do the same. they betray each other in the most selfless way. neither one is acting out of greed, or wants to hurt the other.
