[ can yaman | 34 | cis man | he/him ] Hey, look! It’s [ADEM SAHIR] at [EAST HAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT]. Did you know they [WORK] there as a [DETECTIVE]? I guess they’re from [EAST HAVEN] and have been in town for [34 YEARS], living in [PRIMROSE HEIGHTS]. I also heard they’re a little [HARDENED], but also very [GENEROUS] which definitely makes sense.
The Sahir family have always been wealthy but the money never mattered to Adem. He was the youngest son in the family and as such, there were certain expectations put on him, but yet again, he didn’t care for that. His parents expected him to become a doctor or a lawyer, something respectable, but when he was in high school, Adem did everything he wanted and ensured that he wasn’t going to be accepted into any reputable school.
At 18 years old, Adem followed his older brother Selim into the military, much to the chagrin of his parents who now had two sons that were running off to save the world instead of thinking practically. But Selim was Adem’s big brother, his hero, he would follow that guy anywhere. He spent the next 12 years of his life in the army, deployed all over the world but he always found his way home to East Haven when he was on leave. After all, there was a girl.
Dilara had been a friend for much longer than she had his heart. She was beautiful and kind but he never saw it as much more than that until they got older. She made him laugh, she had a kind heart and when they were in their late twenties they finally made the leap from friends to lovers. It only took Adem a year to know she was the one, though his heart knew long before his head did. Then somehow life got in the way again.
Another deployment meant another delayed wedding but they were okay with it, after all, they had forever. When Selim was nearly fatally injured, that’s when everything changed. Adem was still overseas when he got the call that he needed to come home. It all happened so quickly, his injury, the trip home, the “I’m sorry son, he took his own life” from an officer. Nothing could have prepared him for that loss and when it hit him, it hit him hard.
Adem started drinking to drown his grief but it was never enough. The once youthful and kind Adem was unrecognizable. There was nothing he could have done and he knew that, but the horrible pain never eased up. Losing your best friend, your brother, it was unimaginable. When he was drinking, he was angry and mean, he often said things he didn’t mean and when he was sober, he would apologize and promise to get help, but he never did. For a long time Dilara tried to help him but when it became clear he wasn’t going to get his shit together, her poor broken heart was too damaged by him to repair it. She left him 2 years ago and Adem is still a drunk, still angry, but he did manage to pick up some part of his life when he got a job with the East Haven PD. The only time he’s not drinking is when he’s working but that doesn’t seem to do much for his mood.
